Inci-DENTS Resumes Activities Following the lull of the Summer season and the hub-bub attendant upon a new semester's beginning, it is good now to draw a deep breath and to turn attention to the many items of interest concern- ing departmental, faculty, staff, and student activities. Inci-DENTS greets one and all as the 1967-68 school year rolls on.
ENDO NOTES
Dr. Harry J. Healey participated in the examinations of the American Board of Endodontics at Walter Reed Hospital just prior to the 1967
annual session of the American Dental Association in Washington, D. C.
He also recently served with the Council on Dental Education site visit teams for the residency program of the Brooklyn Jewish Chronic
Disease Hospital and for ~he graduate program of Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry.
In reply to numerous inquiries, Dr. Healey is pleased to report that following nine weeks of hospitali- zation in Chicago, Mrs. Healey will return home soon. She is making satisfactory progress in her recovery.
MRS. HARVEY GIVEN HONORARY MEMBERSHIP
Mrs. Cleona Harvey was made an honorary member of the Indiana University
School of Dentistry Alumni Association at the fall conference held in
Bloomington in September.
November 15, 1967 DR. HOUSE BECOMES FELLOW
Fellowship in the American College of Dentists was conferred on Dr.
James E. House at the annual meeting of the College in Washington, D. C.
on Sunday, October 29, 1967.

Dr. James R. Roche, who is currently serving as President of the Indianapolis District Dental Society, was recently elected a member of the Board of Directors of the American Acadenzy- of Pedodontics and he has begun his year as President of the Association of Pedodontic Diplomates.
SHIRLEY SHAZER IN NORWAY
Miss Shirley Shazer spent two months in Bergen, Norway at the invitation of
"the University of Bergen. While there, she instructed technicians. Enroute home, she made stops in Copenhagen and London.

Gish was elected President Elect of the American Association ofPublic Health Dentists at the association's annual meeting in Washington, D. C. on October 28, 1967.
DR. MITCHELL ATTENDS FDI I"1EETING
This past summer, Dr. Mitchell
attended and participated in the FDI meeting, which was held in Paris, France. While in Europe, he visited his son, David, Jr., who is stationed with the Air Force in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Dr. Mitchell spent October 23-25 in Atlanta, Georgia, serving as one of the board examiners for the elevation to Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Pathology examination.
DENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS
The Division of Dental Health of the Indiana State Board of Health has
commenced a program of self-application of a therapeutic prophylaxis paste for Fall,
1967.
During the past month, over one thousand children have been treated.Many members of the Indianapolis District Dental Society are partici- pating in the annual second-grade inspection program. The program which is presented in cooperation with the Division of Public Health Nursing of the Marion County Health and Hospital Corporation, is educational in nature, and provides referral cards with
dental health messages for children and parents. Last year,

DEAN HINE HONORED
Dean Maynard K. Hine was the recent recipient of the William J. Gies award during the meeting of the .American Academy of Periodontology in Washington, D. C.
Dean Hine also received an honorary degree of D.Sc. from Case Western
Reserve University on October 20,
1967.
He became an Honorary Fellow of the .American Academy of Dental Science at a meeting in Boston. Massachusetts, on October
19, 1967.

ACADEMY BOARD OF DIRECTORSDr. Varoujan Chalia.n was re-elected for a three-year term to the Board of
Directors of the .American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics at the recent annual meeting in Washington, D. C.
He was also reappointed as chairman of the membership committee of the Academy.
NEWS AT RILEY DENTAL CLINIC
Dr. Michael Lerner attended the Mott Foundation's course on dental care for the cerebral palsied child in Flint, Michigan. He represented Riley Dental Clinic.

Dr. W. Bailey Davis became a member of the Association of Pedodontic Diplomates at the annual meeting in Washington, D. C. He also presented his pedodontic board cases to the American Academy of Pedodontics.
As of November l, 1967, Dr. Roger Shurr has been serving as chief resident of pedodontic services at Riley Hospital.
BUST OF DEAN HINE IN LIBRARY A bronze bust of Dean Hine has been made possible through contributions of the Alumni Association. It is currently on display in the library, where it may be seen by any who have not yet had the opportunity to view it.
ITEMS FROM CROWN & BRIDGE Dr. and Mrs. John F. Johnston flew to New York City in October, where they saw two Broadway plays. The occasion for the trip was their 45th wedding anniversary.
Dr. Roland Dykema recently flew to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he lectured during a three-day refresher course presented by the Argentina Prosthodontics Society.
PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY RESEARCH BUILDING
Progress on the preventive dentistry research building to the west of the main building of the Dental School is advancing at a moderate pace. The structure itself is nearing completion, but it will be another three months before the cabinetry is delivered.
March, 1968, is the current target date for occupancy.
DISPLAY TO BE IN MAIN CORRIDOR Very shortly, a display .sponsored by the Lactona Corporation will be in the main corridor of the Dental School.
It will illustrate representative examples of historical tooth brushes and other tooth-cleaning devices. The display has been ohown at the annual
meeting of the .American Dental Association in Washington, D.
c.,
and will be onloan to the School of Dentistry for a period of two months.
REORGANIZATION IN ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES
Several changes have been initiated in the administrative offices, and a familiar face will be returning soon.
Mr. Mike Curtis, former business manager, will be assuming his earlier duties and will have his office in room 104. Mrs.
Benefiel and :Mrs. Brandenstein will exchange places with Mrs. Bauguess and Mrs. Alderfer. Thus, the activities of the Recorder's ofrice will be closer to Mrs. Harvey, and the business activities will be adjacent to the
office of Mr. Curtis. It is anticipated that the change will prove beneficial to all concerned.
NEW LIBRARY HOURS
With the beginning of the Fall, 1967 semester, the library evening hours were extended to cover every night of the week, Monday through Thursday.
Following is a schedule of present library hours:

PERIODONTIC DEPARTMENT EXPANSION The Periodontic Department has expanded to the east wing of the balcony and has added five new contoured chair units. Everyone is invited to visit our new facilities.

PEDODONTIC DEPARTMENT NEWS
At the recent annual meeting in Washington D. C., Dr. Paul Starkey completed his term as President of the American Society of Dentistry for Children and relinquished the gavel on Sunday, October 29, 1967.
While in Washington, he also served as Vice-Chairman of the Pedodontic
Scientific Section of the American Dental Association annual meeting.
During this same series of meetings, Dr. Starkey was re-elected Secretary- Treasurer of tlie Association of Pedodontic Diplomates.
On Wednesday, November 8th, Dr. Starkey attended the District Dental meeting of the West Central Dental Society at Frankfort, Indiana, where he introduced Mr. and Mrs. Julian Jackson, who
presented a program on public relations in dentistry. The Jacksons are the public relations agency for the American Society of Dentistry for Children, who expends some $26,000 for this very important service to the dental profession.
Dr. Roger G. Noonan was recently appointed Chairman of the Program Committee of the Kenneth Easlick
Graduate Society for the years 1967-69.
Dr. Noonan also won first place in the area humorous speech contest as a
representative of the Indiana University Medical Center Toastmaster's Club.
PROFESSOR PHILLIPS PARTICIPATES IN VARIED ACTIVITIES
During the month of November, Prof.
Phillips took part in a variety of meetings and programs. On November 10th he participated in a postgraduate course at the University of Baltimore.
He was in Kansas on the 13th for a meeting of the Wichita Dental Society, and will attend a forum in Milwaukee on November 17th. On the 20th, he will meet with the Racine, Wisconsin Dental Society, and on the 29th-30th, he will be in Knoxville for a course for dental assistants sponsored by the Univ. of Tenn.
