Therefore, the teacher expected to be more creative in choosing the strategy to be used in the classroom. Talking Chips is a strategy that allows students to complete tasks by working in pairs to maximize their own learning and that of each other. This research aims to find out whether the Talking Chips Strategy can improve the speaking skills of students. It means using Talking Chips strategy can improve the speaking performance of the students in the seventh graders of SMP Muhammdiyah 3 Metro.

Talking Chips adalah strategi yang memberi siswa kesempatan untuk menyelesaikan tugas dengan bekerja dalam kelompok dengan pasangannya untuk meningkatkan pembelajaran mereka sendiri dan satu sama lain. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah strategi Talking Chips dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro. Penelitian ini menggunakan 19 siswa sebagai subjek penelitian.

Artinya penggunaan strategi Talking Chips dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro. Skripsi yang diajukan sebagai Pemenuhan Sebagian Persyaratan Gelar Sarjana Pendidikan (S.Pd.) pada Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, berjudul: “Meningkatkan Performa Berbicara Siswa Melalui Strategi Talking Chip di SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro.

Shown on the preliminary examination at Smp Muhammadiyah 3 Metro, the researcher found that the students have difficulty answering the questions in the recount text because they have no motivation to learn English foreign language, and the students were bored in learning English with a monotonous method. In order to make the students happy and happy to learn English, especially to speak English, the teacher should make the different method. In this case, the writer will study how to improve the speaking performance of the seventh grade students of Smp Muhammadiyah 3 Metro. The number of students is 22 students, based on the data of the pre-survey on October 25, 2016, the students' speaking performance can be illustrated below.

In this research, the author will try strategy speaking chips to increase students' speaking performance. The strategy used in the learning process makes the students bored. Students have low ability to achieve especially in speaking English at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro.

Can the use of speaking slides strategy improve the students' speaking performance and their learning activities at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro. The purpose of this research was to improve the students' speaking performance and their learning activities through Talking Chips strategy at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro.

When a student wants to speak, they place their marker in the middle of the group circle. Each time a person wants to speak, a token is placed in the middle of the table. Talking tokens are one of the perfect strategies to get your students talking and make them confident in any learning.

Whenever they finish speaking, they must place a chip in the center of the table. When all chips are used, teammates each collect their chips and continue the discussion using their talking chips.”18. When all the chips are in the center, they are redistributed and the students start the process again.

When students are in the middle of a speaking task, overcorrection can inhibit them and take the communicativeness out of the activity. Then when students keep Talking Chips strategy, they will get chips and the chips are used for every time they talk, they have to place the chips in the center of the table.

In other words, the post-test is designed to check whether this method is effective or not to increase students' speaking performance. This means that the Talking Chips strategy in learning English is successful in increasing the speaking ability and learning activities of seventh grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro. The researcher also designed an assessment to measure the students. mastery of given materials.

In this meeting to measure students' speaking performance after using the Talking Chips strategy, the researcher tested the students with an oral test. In this session, the researcher obtained the result of the student's post-test 1 in cycle 1. The result can be seen as follows. Students after the test 1st result of the 1st cycle. Frequency of students' results in the 1st cycle. No rating Frequency percent category.

The result of the learning process to increase the students' speaking performance by using Talking Chips strategy in cycle 1 increased than before. But the results of the students' test were better than students' before they gave treatment. The Students' Activities in Cycle 1. From the result of cycle 1, it showed that there was an increase in the result at pre-test and post-test 1. The students were interested enough in the learning process, although the state of the learning process was still uncontrolled. It can be seen that most of the students have no difficulty in speaking. This means that the Talking Chips Strategy is an effective method to increase students' speaking performance.

In the first and second cycles, the number of students' results before the test, posttest 1 and posttest 2 was always higher. Based on the pre-test and post-test results, it could be seen that the Talking Chips strategy was able to significantly increase the students' speaking performance compared to the average of the students before and after the treatment.

The researcher told the students that the researcher will conduct a survey in their class to find out their speaking ability before conducting the action research activity in the classroom. In the planning phase, the researcher and the collaborator prepared several things related to teaching and the learning process, such as: .. prepared a curriculum, made an instrument that would be checked as a post test in cycle I, prepared materials, made. observation sheet of students' activities, identified the problem and identified the causes of ... the problem at the beginning and end of the learning activity. The teacher opened the introductory lesson by greeting, reviewing the attendance list and motivating the students.

Then the researcher gave the example of introduction of self and other selves, the students followed. The meeting was started with prayers and greetings, checking the attendance list and asking the condition of the students. The students have to make sentences about introduction of myself and introduction of other self in pairs with their group.

The criterion of students who succeeded in mastering the material was those students who achieved a minimum score of 65. Using Talking Chips Strategy in the learning process is something new in this class because the students are supposed to be active not only in a pair with each student, each of them is also expected to be active in this case, the first meeting many of them still difficult to pronounce. There are still many weaknesses in cycle 1, such as students lack confidence in the learning process, especially in speaking skills, and lack of spelling. .

At this stage, students follow the learning process more actively and enthusiastically.

Interpretation

The increase of each cycle shows that using Talking Chips strategy can improve the speaking performance of the students, because the students are able to speak in front of the class, they can improve their speaking performance. It means the students could achieve the target, the target is 70% students got score 65. test 1 to the post-test 2.

Based on the explanation above, the researcher concluded that the research was successful because the result score of the students achieved the indicator of success which was 70% with the minimum mastery criteria being 65. Based on the data above, it could be be deduced that the students felt comfortable and active in following the teaching and learning process. Most of the students showed good increase in learning activities when Talking Chips strategy was applied in the teaching and learning process from cycle I to cycle II.

Based on the graphic above, it could be concluded that there was an increase in the students' learning activity during the study period came by using the talking chips strategy to increase the students' speaking performance. Therefore, this research was declared complete and could be stopped in cycle II, because the results of the students' activities had achieved the indicator of success, which was 80%. Based on the research results, the researcher would like to make some suggestions as follows.

Students are suggested to follow the rule of Talking Chips Strategy and can understand how to use this method to make them easier in the learning process. Teachers are suggested to use this strategy to help students be more active in the classroom. Do the presentation on your own and practice it in front of the class with your group.

Greet the students with the salam “Assalamualaikum wr.wb” and the students must respond to the salam with words. The researcher observes the students' speaking performance based on the analytical speaking score, which includes fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and interaction. The researcher uses the documentation method to get detailed information about the history of the school, the sum of the teachers, employers, the organizational structure of the students in the seventh grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metro.

Suggestion

Mendengarkan dan memberikan jawaban pengantar tentang makna gagasan teks lisan fungsional pendek sesuai dengan topik materi yang akan dipelajari.
