Time of Issue: 0800 hours IST ALL INDIA WEATHER SUMMARY AND FORECAST BULLETIN

Significant Weather Features

♦ A Low Pressure Area lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining Sri Lanka off Tamil Nadu coast and the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 3.1 km above mean sea level. It is likely to move westwards during next 48 hours. A trough in easterlies runs from the cyclonic circulation associated with this Low Pressure Area to Northwest Bay of Bengal.

♦ Under the influence of above systems:

(i) Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated/few places very likely over Tamilnadu and isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala & Mahe during 29th October-01st November, 2021.

(ii) Heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh during 29th-31st October with isolated very heavy falls on 29th October 2021. Heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Coastal & South Interior Karnataka on 31st and over Rayalaseema during 29th-30th October, 2021.

(iii) Thunderstorm & lightning very likely over Kerala & Mahe, Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during 29th October-01st November, 2021.

Mainly dry weather very likely to prevail over most parts of Northwest and Central India and many parts of East & Northeast India during next 5 days.

Main Weather Observations

Rainfall/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hrs IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at many places over Kerala & Mahe; at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal and Lakshadweep.

♦ Significant amount of Rainfall (from 0830 hrs IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday)(more than 1 cm): Tamilnadu: Kanyakumari-1;

Gangetic West Bengal: Kolkata (Alipore), Haldia and Diamond Harbour-1 each; Coastal Andhra Pradesh- Vijayawada-2.

Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hrs IST of yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today): at a few places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry &

Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe and at isolated places over Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam.

Maximum Temperature Departures as on 28-10-2021: Maximum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Assam & Meghalaya; at many places over Arunachal Pradesh; at a few places over Telangana and Konkan & Goa; at isolated places over West Bengal & Sikkim, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Madhya Pradesh; at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, West Rajasthan and East Madhya Pradesh; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over Uttar Pradesh; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat state and Odisha; at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar islands and near normal at rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the maximum temperature 36.4°C was reported at Bhuj (Saurashtra &

Kutch) & Ratnagiri (Konkan & Goa).

Minimum Temperature Departures as on 28-10-2021: Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and West Rajasthan; at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and Saurashtra & Kutch; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Odisha and Jharkhand; at a few places over Gujarat region, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal; at isolated places over Punjab, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Assam & Meghalaya. They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over Coastal & North Interior Karnataka; at a few places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh; at isolated places over East Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Konkan & Goa and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 11.3°C was reported at Sikar (East Rajasthan) over the plains of the country.

♦ The Low Pressure Area over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast now lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining Sri Lanka off Tamil Nadu coast with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 3.1 km above mean sea level. It is likely to move westwards during next 48 hours.

♦ The trough in easterlies from the cyclonic circulation associated with the above Low Pressure Area to northwest Bay of Bengal extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 03rd November, 2021

♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.

♦ No significant change in Minimum Temperatures over Northwest, Central, East and West India during next 48 hours and fall by 2-3°C thereafter. No significant change in minimum temperatures over rest parts of the country during next 4-5 days.

♦ No significant change in maximum temperatures over most parts of the country during next 4-5 days.

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES

♦ Withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon: There had been no further withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon after 14th October till 22nd October hence the Southwest monsoon withdrawal line continued to pass through Lat. 27.0°N/Long. 92.0°E, Kohima, Silchar, Krishnanagar, Baripada, Malkangiri, Nalgonda, Bagalkote, Vengurla, Lat. 16.0°N/Long. 65.0°E and Lat. 16.0°N/Long. 60.0°E from 14th to 22nd October 2021; it has further withdrawn from remaining parts of Northeast India, West Bengal, Odisha, entire North Bay of Bengal and Goa , some parts of Andhra Pradesh; remaining parts of Telangana and some more parts of Karnataka and Central Arabian Sea on 23rd October 2021 and the withdrawal line passed through Lat 18.5°N/Long 94°E, Lat 18.5°N/Long 90°E, Kalingapatnam, Nandigama, Kurnool, Gadag, Majali, Lat 15°N/Long 65°E and Lat 15°N/Long 60°E on that day and remained the same on 24th;in view of significant reduction in rainfall activity over most parts of the country, the Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the entire country on 25th October 2021 and simultaneously with the setting in of northeasterly winds in the lower tropospheric levels, the Northeast monsoon rains have commenced over extreme south peninsular India on the same day.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Comorin area & neighbourhood in the lower tropospheric levels in the beginning of the week which subsequently moved over to Lakshadweep area & neighbourhood on 23rd October 2021 and persisted over that area for two days before getting less marked on 25th October 2021; in addition to that, a trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over Comorin area &

neighbourhood to Eastcentral Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast in the lower tropospheric levels on 21st & 22nd October 2021; Under their influence, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity along with isolated heavy rainfall had occurred over extreme south Peninsula during the first half of the week; isolated very heavy rainfall also had occurred over Kerala & Mahe on two to three days during the same period along with.

♦ An active Western Disturbance approached Northwest India from 22nd October 2021 and was seen as a cyclonic circulation in the lower tropospheric levels along with a trough aloft in the middle tropospheric levels; before moving away east-northeastwards on 26th October 2021, this system and its induced cyclonic circulation supported by moisture incursion from Arabian Sea have caused fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity over Western Himalayan Region on two to three days and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity over adjoining plains of Northwest India on one or two days along with isolated heavy rainfall activity over some parts during the week; isolated very heavy rainfall also had occurred over Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh on one day along with; Severe thunderstorm activity along with hailstorms also had been reported over these region during the passage of the system.

Heavy rain:

♦ Heavy to Very heavy rainfall at isolated places had occurred over Kerala & Mahe on three days;

over Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh and Assam & Meghalaya on one day each during the week.

♦ Heavy rainfall at isolated places had occurred over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikkal on six days; over South Interior Karnataka on five days; over Rayalseema on three days; over Arunachal Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, North Interior Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe on two days each; over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Coastal Karnataka on one day each during the week.

Temperature Scenario:

♦The highest maximum temperature of 36.7oC had been recorded at Ratnagiri (Konkan & Goa) on 23rd October 2021 and the lowest minimum temperature of 11.0oC had been recorded at Sikar (East Rajasthan) on 27th October 2021 over the plains of the country during the week.

METEOROLOGICALANALYSIS

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood lay over East Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood between 3.1 & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 21st October 2021;

it has become less marked on 22nd October 2021.

♦ Last week’s north-south trough from the cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh &

neighbourhood to Eastcentral Arabian Sea ran from the cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood to north Gujarat across Madhya Pradesh between 3.1 & 5.8 km above mean sea level on 21st October 2021; it ran from Jharkhand to East Vidarbha across Chhattisgarh between 3.1 & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 22nd; it has become less marked on 23rd October 2021.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over south Tamilnadu coast & neighbourhood lay over Comorin area & neighbourhood and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height on 21st October 2021; it persisted over the same areas and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 22nd; it lay over Lakshadweep area & neighbourhood and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 23rd and 24th; it has become less marked on 25th October 2021.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Bihar & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 21st October 2021.

♦ A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over Comorin area & neighbourhood to Eastcentral Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 21st & 22nd October 2021; it has become less marked on 23rd October 2021.

♦ A Western Disturbance was seen as cyclonic circulation over East Afghanistan & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 63°E to the north of Lat. 32°N on 22nd October 2021; it was seen as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Afghanistan at 3.1 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 68°E to the north of Lat. 25°N on 23rd; it was seen as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & neighbourhood between 3.1 & 7.6 km above mean sea level whereas the trough aloft lay with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 70°E to the north of Lat. 23°N on 24th;it was seen as a trough in mid-tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 74°E to the north of Lat. 32°N on 25th; it has moved away east-northeastwards on 26th October 2021.

♦ An induced cyclonic circulation lay over Central Pakistan & neighbourhood and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 22nd October 2021; it lay over Central Pakistan & adjoining areas of Punjab and northwest Rajasthan and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 23rd October 2021; it persisted over the same areas and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 24th; it has become less marked in the early morning hours of 25th October 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over southeast Bangladesh & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 23rd October 2021; it has become less marked on 24th October 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over north coastal Tamilnadu & neighbourhood and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 24th October 2021; it has become less marked on 25th October 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Southeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 26th October 2021; it moved westwards and lay over Southeast and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal in the early morning hours of 27th; under its influence, a Low Pressure Area has formed over central parts of South Bay of Bengal with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level in the forenoon of 27th October 2021.

♦ A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood to North Bay of Bengal extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 26th October 2021; it ran from the cyclonic circulation associated with the Low Pressure Area over central parts of South Bay of Bengal to Northwest Bay of Bengal and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 27th October 2021.

♦ A trough in easterlies ran from Southeast Arabian Sea off Kerala coast to Eastcentral Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 26th October 2021 and it persisted like that on 27th October 2021.

♦ A feeble Western Disturbance was seen as a trough in mid-tropospheric westerlies with its axis at
