Description of the Event:

The war of words debate competition was organized by the Public Speaking and Debate club on 10th Dec 2022 at 12:30 pm at the MBA Block Auditorium. Debates may be challenging to students because they test their ability to listen attentively, think critically, and cooperate as a team. Students can showcase their unique skills in this competition by presenting compelling arguments. This debate competition started with a welcome speech by Ms. Rispa Maria. The judges for the debate competition were Prof. Aaron and Prof. Jerin Jose. The idea behind conducting this competition was to enhance their public speaking and argumentative skills. The Clan leaders were given six trending topics and were asked to prepare for the debate.

The event started with a silent prayer, followed by Dr. Richa Srishti selecting the first topic for the debate. The first topic for the debate was “Is tourism beneficial to society?” the clans given this topic were Spartans/Knights. The participants were given 15 mins to put forward their argument.

Mr.Ajinkya from the Knights presented an opening statement for the topic and shared some facts and supporting ideas.

Next topic given was: Are matrimonial sites increasing stereotypes? The clan members of Vikings and Spartans engaged in an interesting debate. The judges, too, moderated the debate in a challenging way. The debate competition War of Words was successfully carried out as its primary goal was to inspire students to take a position and give them the confidence to express their opinions on sensitive issues. The enthusiasm and zest displayed by the participants in the competition were an overwhelming experience for all those who were present during the event. This debate brought out the best in the participants but also highlighted the potential in the students of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa Campus. The winners were announced by Prof. Aaron George. He appreciated the efforts taken by the students and their participation in the event. He also mentioned that such events will refine the debating and argumentation skills of the management students and will help them in their future endeavours. The first place was bagged by Knights, followed by Spartans. The clans spoke for and against the topics. They were assessed on four parameters - organisation and clarity, use of arguments, use of cross-examination and rebuttal, and presentation style.
