Abstract
This research aimed to study the effect of a development appropriate program-based on Gallahue model-on quantitative and qualitative development of striking fundamental skill in boys with 4 - 6 years old. Using convenience sampling, 30 subjects were selected from the preschool based on a demographic questionnaire. After pre-test, using striking fundamental skill check-list and were randomly divided into 3 groups of 10 people. The first group performed the hand shot exercises based on Gallahue model at 8 weeks; there were 2 sessions per week and each session lasted 45 minutes.The second group performed the spark training program which included 25-minute for warm-up and mobility skills and 20-minute for manipulation skills and cooling down.The third group had no activity. The analysis of covariance results showed there was significant difference between the score means of subjects in terms of group membership (P <0.01). The level of effect in the development appropriate program was 0.48 and 0.039 for quantitative and qualitative development, respectively. Also, there was no significant difference between the spark training group and the control group. Although, free games and educational programs may develop foundational skills, special development exercises for each skill should be used in intervention programs for developing basic skills in children.
The development appropriate programs engage the child in fundamental movement processes in order to develop his/her basic patterns.
