Abstract
Massage and pilates are two new exercise methods that people do for improving their health. The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of massage and pilates on proprioception sense, range of motion and the extent of knee joint pain in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. 30 patients with rheumatoid arthritisranging from 40-60 years old were experimented and divided into three groups of 10 in control, pilates and massage groups.
Proprioception sense was measured by electronic electro goniometerand pain intensity was measured by Visual Analog Scale (VAS). The range of motion of patients' knee was measured by Liton versatile meter. After determining the normality of the data, using Shapiro Wilk Test, one-way ANOVA test was used for analyzing the data and Tukey test was used for finding the differences among groups. The results showed that in the intensity of proprioception sense of knee, the range of motion and the extent of pain there was meaningful differences among groups(P≤0.05). Tukey test revealed that pilates and massage groups had a meaningfully higher deep sense intensity and range of motion and less pain in contrast to control group (P≤ 0.05). But there was no meaningful difference between pilates and massage experimental groups in these indices (P≥0.05).
According to this research results and effectiveness of both pilates and massage exercise methods on some of ﯽﺷزرو ﺐﻃ
the disorders of patients with rheumatoid arthritis, it can be claimed that these exercises can improve the health of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
