【Year 3】 今月の歌 Little Tommy Tucker CD no. 17 3 年生は、数の復習をしました。１から２０は言い方が全部違うの でなかなか覚えるのが難しいです。数字の歌を歌ったり数字を数 えていくゲームをしたり、足し算と引き算とかけ算を見て答えを 英語で言ったりする活動で数に親しみました。
３学期は英語劇をします。３年生は”The Golden Goose”を英語 で演じます。一般英語のみんなだけで今年はナレーターにも挑戦 します。３学期に向けて、冬休み中に OneDrive で劇の音声を聞い てください。

【Year 1】 There is no NR for Christmas break 2 年生は、今月は 2 学期に学んだことのテストをしました。
最後の 2 回の授業ではクリスマスについて勉強しました。クリスマ スの歌を歌ったり、クリスマスビンゴを作ったりして、楽しく英語で クリスマスの言葉を知ることができました。
個人面談で｢追加の課題がある｣と言われた方は、冬休み中に YouTube で KIDSTV１２３の“We are the Alphabet”というビデオを 5 回以上は見て英語にふれる機会を持ちましょう。

【Year 4】 今月の歌 Little Jack Honor CD no. 19 4 年生は、I have～.という表現を使って writing をしました。動 物や人、物などの特徴を書き発表しました。子どもたちは、友だち が何について書いたのかよく考えながら発表を聞いていました。
“I have green hair. I have a brown body. I am a tree.”など子 どもたちには面白い発想がたくさんありました。
3 学期には英語劇をします。A 組は“The Wolves and Five Kids”、B 組は”Snow White”を英語で演じます。3 学期に向けて、冬 休み中に OneDrive で劇の音声を聞いてください。

2 年生はレシピを完成させ、自分たちの好きな食べ物について 話し合いました。｢自分の好きな食べ物を友だちも好きかどうか｣
を尋ねました。また、2 学期に学んだことのテストもしました。最後 の 2 回の授業はクリスマスについてでした。パンケーキ作りもしま した。とてもおいしくできあがり、子どもたちは幸せそうでした。

5 年生は、writing の練習でマイストーリーというものを行っています。短い本を最後のページを残して読み、
お話のラストを予想して英語で書きます。いろいろなアイディアを出し、知っている英語でなんとか表現しよう と頑張っています。本当のエンディングよりもすてきなアイディアがたくさん出てきます。また、朝学習の時間 には、授業で読んだ本の書き写しをしています。文や人の名前は大文字から始める、文の最後にはピリオドを 打つ、単語と単語の間は空けるなど、英語の文章を書く時のルールに気をつけながら
英語を書く練習をしています。
【Year 6】今月の歌 Down by the Station CD no. 28
６年生は、今まで学習した表現を使ってスキットを作りました。ショッピング、道案内、レストランと いう 3 つのシチュエーションで英語を使って短い劇を作りました。基本のスクリプトのセリフを変 えたり、付け加えたりしてグループでオリジナルのスキットを作ることができました。自分たちで 小道具や衣装の用意もしました。自分たちが知っている表現でこれだけ実生活で会話ができる のだということを実感することができたと思います。
アフタースクール英語 1～2 年
アフタースクールも今日で今年最後と なりました。5 月から初めて、子どもたち はどんどんレベルアップしています。ステ ップアップのテストに合格できなくても、
あきらめず何度も挑戦する姿が見られま した。頑張って合格したときには嬉しそう に報告してくれます。こうして子どもたち は達成感を感じているのですね。
アフタースクール英語 3～6 年
今月の文化的な活動では、クッキングでチョコバナナ ブレッドをつくりました。子どもたちは「すごくおいしかっ た！！」と、とても嬉しそうでした。2 学期にはハロウィ ンやサンクスギビング、クリスマスなどの行事を学び、外 国の文化に触れる機会がたくさんありました。子どもた ちは楽しみながら英語を学んでいます。楽しいと思うこ とが英語を学ぶ上でとても大切なことです。この気持 ちをずっと忘れないでいてほしいと思います。
1st graders completed their “sh”, “wh”, “th” and “ch” sounds and went on to write about “The Animals I Know.” After that they created their own
“Silly Animal”, a combination of two animals. They had to explain how each of the animals it is made of affects how they look, move, and what they eat. A “kangon” with a kangaroo head and a lion body, “owbit” with an owl head and a rabbit body and a “bpus” which has a bear head and an octopus body were created. Please, visit the English department to learn about these animals.
2nd graders learned how to join two simple sentences together using the conjunctions: “and,” “so,” “but,” “because” and “then”. We also had a cooking lesson where the students made pancakes with the rest of their class. It may have been their first time cooking!
3rd graders did a review of their works on suffixes with emphasis on comparatives and superlatives. We also reviewed the nouns and noun clues and did some sentence decoding using given keys to reveal a Christmas message. Our color poems from last month are now on display.
4th graders completed their insect paragraphs. Mr. Okori’s students studied comparatives and superlatives before writing their own comparison sentences about their insects. All the students combined their paragraphs, and comparisons onto posters about their insects. These wonderful posters are now on display at the International English department.
5th graders had a joint lesson where in both Mr. Okori’s and Ms. Atkin’s class presented their biographies in front of each other. All the students did well. Ms. Atkin’s students went on to review speech as well as grammar points.
6th graders completed their essays about their school trip to Hiroshima, Kyoto and Nara; then wrote it to neat; some even typed the writing.
These writings are now being displayed for viewing at the International English department. Our Christmas lesson was a debate on “Santa Claus:
Real or Not”. The students made preparations using available resources at school, home, or on the internet and had a wonderful debate.
International English Club
December’s club meetings have been the best yet! We had a Christmas lesson one day. We organized Christmas words into ABC order and wrote a Christmas poem. For the very last day, we baked cookies. These were special cookies as they were cookies in a mug, baked in a microwave and not an oven. What ooey, gooey, goodness!
MobyMax
Firstly, we would like to thank all the students who completed their MobyMax work on time. THANK YOU! Secondly, we would like to recognize the top three students who went above and beyond in regards to how much time they worked on MobyMax this term:
Loa Shigihara completed and 866 minutes! Talk about a hard worker!
Sena Burt completed and extra 299 minutes. Very impressive.
Jane Miwa completed and extra 108 minutes. Nicely done.
Lastly, starting December 26th, students may begin working towards their third term MobyMax goal: 160 minutes for 2nd-6th grades and 80 minutes for 1st grade. Students must work for 40 minutes each on Language, Vocabulary, Reading skills as well as non-math skills of their choice. For first grade: 20 minutes each Language, Early Reading Trio, Vocabulary/Phonics and non-math skills for a total of 80 minutes.
