GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mt. 23:1-12) The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew
Then said Jesus to the crowds and to his disciples, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat; so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practice. They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ. He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
REFLECTION:
Who doesn't desire the praise and respect of others? We want others to see us at our best with all of our strengths and achievements - rather than at our worst with all of our faults and shortcomings. God sees us as we truly are - sinners and beggars always in need of his mercy, help, and guidance.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, teach me to be humble as you are humble and to love others generously with selfless service and kindness.
Amen.
Prayer of St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

UN SDG #5: Gender Equality
DLSL Strategic Direction B: Embracing Our Shared Humanity and Championing Social Inclusion and Justice Initiatives
What is CEDAW?
Known as the International Bill of Rights of Women, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women is the only human rights treaty which affirms the reproductive rights of women and targets culture and tradition as influential forces shaping gender roles and family relations. It affirms women's rights to acquire, change or retain their nationality and the nationality of their children.
CEDAW was adopted by the United Nations in 1979 and took effect on September 3, 1981. As of February 2015, it has 188 State Parties that agreed to implement the provisions of the treaty most importantly taking appropriate measures against all forms of discrimination and exploitation of women. Consisting of a preamble and 30 articles, it defines what constitutes discrimination against women and sets up an agenda for national action to end such discrimination.
The Convention defines discrimination against women as "any distinction, exclusion or restriction made on the basis of sex which has the effect or purpose of impairing or nullifying the recognition, enjoyment or exercise by women, irrespective of their marital status, on a basis of equality of men and women, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil, or any other field.
CEDAW also establishes a framework that draws on three over-arching principles: equality in opportunity, equality in access and equality in results. The Convention advocates the “substantive” kind of equality both in law (de jure) and in practice (de facto).

MIND CRACKLING FOR TEACHERS QUESTION #2
The red bulbs of a Christmas light flash every 8 seconds, the blue bulbs flash every 9 seconds and the green bulbs flash every 10 seconds. If they all start flashing together, in every how many minutes will
they flash simultaneously again?
Solution:
This is a problem on Least Common Multiple (LCM) 8 = 2 x 2 x 2
9 = 3 x 3 10 = 2 x 5
LCM = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 5 = 360 sec or 6 mins.
