Evidence-based practice and quality care are expected
with
the growing numberof
patients
with
ESRDin
the Philippines alongwith
the costly hemodialysis treatment.This qualitative-phenomenologic study aims to investigate the lived experiences
of
Filipino patients diagnosedwith
ESRD on hemodialysis ueatment.All
study participants were chosen through purposive sampling usingcriterion
sampling strategy. Thepurposive sample consisted
of
10 patients. The study took place at a tertiary hospitalwith
a dialysis
unit
locatedin
Mabalacat, Pampmga, Philippines.Multiple
sources of data were utilized and are as follows: semi-structured interviews, voice recordings, chart historyand field notes. Data were analyzed using the method of Colaizzi. Four themes were found: 1) "Bed of thorns"
with
sub-themes "a) frustration, pain, changes and worries, b) living a limitedlife,
c) financial issues, and d) skills of health care providers", 2) "Getting on withit" with
sub-themes "a) spirituallife,
b) positive outlook, and c) supportivefa.iry,
3) 'Fear of theunknown",
and 4) *It's just normal.o This studywill
develop awareness about the experience of patients on hemodialysis that may enable the healthcare team to improve
quality
of care and outcomes and respond totheir
needs by learning from the patients themselves.'With
the use of a naturalistic
inquiry,
the researcherwill
achieve the goal of searching deeper and beyond ptain sight as
it
