Our study of the two types of Jam a Mapun ecosystems is limited to the population inhabiting Kagayan Island.3 The unus1ila. The bear's body is represented as a fish trap in the shape of a bamboo basket. Both the Jama Mapun and Palawan pagans use Mopo to predict the start of the rice planting season.
The success of the coconut kabbuns in Kagayan shows that the ecological conditions on the island were favorable for this. A remarkable change can be seen in the practice of reciprocity, which was very characteristic of the traditional Jama Mapun culture.

PERSONALITY RESEARCH IN THE PHILIPPINES
As we have already mentioned, socialization processes are one of the great interests of culture and personality. The importance of ecology and basic household structure is evident in this study. But these are probably some of the best articles on Filipino culture and personality.

An excellent study at the time of its publication, however, it is based on studies from the 1910s; much of the material needs updating. Introduction
- Preparation of the paper
- Itbayat Island and the People
Of the three groups of people, the fishing economy appears to be more important among the Yami than among those on the islands of Batan and Itbayat, especially in the latter. The present paper is an attempt to describe the fishing-navigational life of the Itbayat through the vocabulary they use and will be organized by themes or categories.2. Location: Itbayat Island is the northernmost inhabited island in the Philippines and is the largest of the three major islands of Batanes Province.
Paulina Balanoba for their understanding, patience and valuable information they gave me about the life of the Itbayat people. The information about the lives of the inhabitants of the island of Batan was also of great value and help, because there are many similarities in the lives of the people of these two islands. Acado, the principal of Batanes High School, for introducing me to the right people and for preparing my article "The Vanishing Customs of the Ivatans" for me; Mr.
Zamora, Chairman of the Department of Anthropology, University of 1he Philippines, for his advice from an anthropological point of view; to Prof. Lijauco, College of Fisheries, University of the Philippines, for their help in identifying some fishes; to the Philippine Fisheries Commission, for supplying me with a copy of English and Local Common Names of Philippine Fishes, by Albert W. Tomas (Manila, 1914); and to the Institute of Asian Studies, University of the Philippines, for its partial financial support for my research in the field last sum.
Due to the strong sea currents and frequent typhoons, as well as the steep, precipitous and rocky cliffs that surround the island, I tbayat island is inaccessible to contact with the outside world. We observed the difference in fishing methods, in the structure of the boats and the like, from Yami and Ivatan. It is interesting to note that the population of the island - one of the three inhabited islands of the province of Batanes - increased by about 400 persons during the period of the year.

Fishing and Navigation
The sea plays a crucial role in the life of the Itbayat people who live on a small island: it is the sea from which part of their food is obtained and through which the Itbayat have managed to keep in touch with the nearby islands, although steep cliffs around the island, strong cross currents and typhoons make it extremely difficult for Itbayat to fish and navigate. There is therefore no doubt that agricultural products, especially root crops, have barely lasted their lives because they do not have enough to last them throughout the year. This old man was told by another old man that he had found a palapalay at Lised in Itbayat, but it contained no gold.

It is likely that the fishing culture of the Batanes and Yami in the past arose from a single prototype, as there is a great deal of similarity between their fishing methods, boat building, ceremonies and other matters. as well as in the fishing and navigation vocabulary found in Yami and the various islands of the Batanes. However, it seems that it is in Y ami where you can observe these cultural features in the most traditional way, both in quantity and quality; they are less traditional in Batan and it is in Itbayat where they are least traditional. The fishing culture among the Itbayat underwent a great change from the prototype due to the topographical obstacles already mentioned, compared to Batan and Yami, and due to the introduction of Christianity, also compared to Yami.
