Final considerations

That system was tested in real condition and was very useful and showed a great level of efficiency and effectiveness for real business conditions. They indicate that this system can: make financial benefits, provide better organization of work, stimulate all employees to improve their own process, synchronize function in organization, identify priority area for improvement, define intensity of action for improvement, stimulate preventive versus corrective action, encourage better involvement of new staff in the activities, bring higher level of flexibility and others.

Improving ‘Improvement’ by Refocusing Learning: Experiences from an –Initially-

Unsuccessful Six Sigma Project in Healthcare

Introduction

However, we will first give a brief overview of Six Sigma before moving on to the theoretical underpinnings of this chapter – cognitive, structural, and procedural learning mechanisms. We then present how the lessons learned from the analyzes were used to integrate learning mechanisms into the Six Sigma program, contributing to the project's high success rate.

Theory and background 1. Six Sigma

  • Using learning mechanisms to enhance organizational learning
  • Learning cycles in continual improvement

The concept of learning mechanisms is explored in some detail, linking theories of organizational learning with learning mechanisms, thus clarifying the implementation of mechanisms as a way to improve organizational learning. This definition also captures some of the elements that distinguish Six Sigma from TQM—the role structure and the structured improvement procedure (Zu et al. 2008).

Method

  • Action research

By repeating the specification - production - inspection steps in a continuous spiral, a circular path representing an "idealized state" can be achieved. Similarly, Joseph Juran emphasized the importance of quality improvement, which means "the organized creation of beneficial change" (1989, p. 28).

The context: The Skaraborg Hospital Group and the Six Sigma quality programme

  • SkaS
  • The initial project at the emergency ward

To solve the problem, the owner of the emergency process at EW - the head of the surgical clinic - decided to start an improvement project in the spring of 2006 with the aim of reducing the average LoS by 20 minutes, thereby increasing patient satisfaction and safety, improving the working environment and improving resource utilization. The results of the proposed solutions were monitored using control charts that continuously assessed the overall LoS.

Results and analysis of the project 1. Initial results show no improvement

The project group lacked authority »» strong informal leaders did not commit to/support the project (staff at EW as well as doctors). The project mentor did not provide sufficient support to the project managers in helping them define the scope of the project, but also in suggesting alternative methods.

Integrating learning mechanisms into the SkaS quality programme

  • Cognitive learning mechanisms
  • Structural learning mechanisms
  • Procedural learning mechanisms
  • A second and successful retake on the project using learning mechanisms The problem with long LoS persisted, so a new improvement project was initiated in 2008

2 Poor management knowledge of the importance of physical participation and showing commitment to the project. Audit of education; We added Lean and Design for Six Sigma to the Six Sigma training and extended the training.

Conclusions

A second and successful retake of the project using learning mechanisms. The problem with long LoS continued, so a new improvement project was started in 2008. Furthermore, expert knowledge about flow theory in daily operations was brought to the project – a cognitive learning mechanism.

Further research

Project quality management consists of processes to ensure that the project will meet the defined and planned requirements, the processes of quality planning, quality assurance and quality control (PMD, 2008). It is part of every project management process from the moment the project starts until the final steps in the project closing phase.

Projects costs management 1. Theoretical aspects

  • Costs estimation methods - modeling and simulation
  • Case study regarding project cost estimation of the quality management system implementation

Estimating the cost of the project is one of the most crucial tasks for project managers. The recent popularity of the triangular distribution can be attributed to its use in Monte Carlo simulation modeling and its use in standard uncertainty analysis software. Development of specific documents in QMS (quality manual, documented procedures for quality management system, specific documents).

The general objective of this project is to implement, maintain, certify and continuously improve the quality management system in the organization in accordance with ISO 9001:2008. Transfer of the quality management system documents to the certification organization (quality manual, procedures, work instructions);

Projects quality improvement through risks management process

  • Concepts, principles and components of risks management
  • Risks estimation of quality management system implementation

For activities where the distribution is skewed to the left, we can complete the tasks ahead of schedule and for the distribution to the right, the project implies additional costs. After the assessment, risk categories affecting the project development of the quality management system implementation are detailed in table 4. Certification not obtained R17 Unresolved of the prepared non-conformity report 0.3 Resumption of internal audits R18 Decisions not complied with 0.3 Delay to finish the project R19 Resumption of the process if it is found that.

If the project meets all these three criteria, it is right to consider it a successful project. Therefore, the essence of risk management is the avoidance of anything that lengthens the schedule, increases the cost or harms the users' satisfaction with the product of the project.

Conclusions

Budget estimates must be adopted early enough for planning long-term financing of the facility. This is why we need risk assessment – it helps us manage the uncertainty of the future (Naughton, 2012). What Quality Management Allied to Information Can Do for Occupational Safety and Health

Knowledge management and scientific information in occupational safety and health

It is important that employees feel important to the organization and that their work has real value for the company. After all, the employee is the one who owns the organization's most valuable asset: the intellectual. Facilitating the interactive flow of knowledge in the organization, adding value to information and disseminating it corresponds to the role of knowledge management, transforming knowledge into competitive advantage [8].

The creation of concepts corresponds to the phase in which tacit knowledge is converted into explicit knowledge, as a new concept (externalization). This merger can in fact bring great benefits to the organization in its various aspects.

The benefits of the fusion between quality management tools and knowledge management

  • Organizational knowledge management and PDCA cycle
  • Quality management according to the 5S process

The knowledge management benefits can be improved by using the resources suggested by tools of quality management. One of the tools applied in this sense is the PDCA cycle, defined as method to manage processes or systems. Under this ideology, it is made necessary to carry out accurate audits at every single stage of the work.

The end of one cycle will flow back into the beginning of the next cycle, and so on. This corresponds to the regulator sense, which creates in a company's workers the awareness of the performance of the previous four senses.

The fusion between cycle PDCA + 5S = Organizational benefits?

The virtual environment offers the researcher agility in processes of production, evaluation, publication and validation of the essays. The reasons are varied, ranging from public disinterest to the lack of available equipment. On the other hand, although the scientific information does not reach 100% of the concerned public, managers often have easy access to this kind of data.

Digital repositories of information are information systems intended to store, preserve, distribute and facilitate access to the intellectual output of the various scientific communities around the world. The establishment of the open archives initiative in Brazil can help to remove barriers to access to OSH information and also promote collaborative reflection among members of the scientific community.

OSH information management in São Paulo city, Brazil, under the professionals perception

23 organizations from the southern area of the city of São Paulo were randomly selected and interviewed by VZD experts. In the studied population, 52% were security technicians, and 21% of the total sample were security engineers. The starting premises, which were confirmed at the end of the study, show that the philosophy of dissemination of scientific information used by open archives is considered by the interviewed experts as a supporting tool for the management of safety and health at work.

In this landscape, the effective use and application of scientific information and communication can be considered one of the main challenges to be achieved by occupational health and safety professionals. While inconsistencies in the workplace can culminate in damage to the organization, investments in the development of intellectual capital and managerial knowledge should be priorities for organizations and considered as supporting tools for managing occupational health and safety.

This loop consists of the steps of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. In the application, a marketing questionnaire was applied to customers of the firm to find the reason for the problem. Weights can be represented as the strength of the connection between an input and a neuron.

There has been some research on determining the effects of the input parameters on the response variable30 in terms of sensitivity. It tries to see what the effect of changing the inputs of the model would be on the overall model fit.

Redesigning the Service Process for

Total Quality in Government Hospitals

The purpose of this article is therefore to explore how a redesign of the service process can deliver total quality in Kwara State Government hospitals and remove the barriers to TQM implementation. The eagerness of the patients to complete the questionnaire was a sign of dissatisfaction with the service, which in turn suggests the need to redesign the service process. 81% of the respondents were between the ages of 21 and 50, which is an indication of the level of literacy of the respondents.

The carers, that is to say those who stay with the patients in the hospital, account for 13% of the process violations which again have an impact. This paper is of the view that what we refer to as offending factors for the employment process in developing countries like Nigeria may not actually be the offending factors in developed countries.
