The exchange rate pass-through and the changes of the exchange rate in Vietnam Abstract:

This study investigates evidence of exchange rate pass-through into inflation depending on the level of exchange rate fluctuations in Vietnam by using the smooth transition regression model. As a result, there is evidence about the asymmetry of the exchange rate pass-through to changes in the exchange rate. The level of exchange rate pass-through is different depending on the level of fluctuations in the exchange rate below or above the threshold of 0.8% per month. In the long term, the level of exchange rate pass-through is higher when the exchange rate fluctuations exceed the threshold. This result shows that the motivation to maintain market share may be the cause of changes in the price adjustment behavior of Vietnamese firms due to the exchange rate shock.
