Lentswe, Stilfontein - The Stilfontein Regional Court post- poned the case against the 88 suspected illegal miners that were arrested at 2 shaft in Ork- ney to October 12.
The attorney for all 88 sus- pects did not appear in court and no reason was provided for his absence.
According to Henry Ma-
m o t h a m e , N PA Re g i o n a l Spokesperson, the court warned against further delays on this matter, as the last postponement was prompted by the defen- dant’s failure to provide the state with a hard drive, at which the content of the docket, which includes video footage, will be provided for pre-trial to com- mence.
“Thethile Master Boyce (60), who was added to the charge sheet as the 88th suspect is still out on R2 000 bail, while the other 87 suspects remain in police custody. The Hawks’ in- vestigations revealed that Boyce is a taxi owner who allegedly transported the suspected il- legal miners to and from the mine, and transported food. His
Lentswe, Khuma - The standoff be- tween Khuma taxi drivers and the community has bring this township to a standstill since Monday September 5.
It started with the community tak- ing a stand against the taxi associations closing all entrances to the township on Monday. They used stones and burning tyres to barricade roads. Taxis were not operating and no vehicles were allowed to enter or exit causing learners to miss school and people to miss work.
According to Mohanoe Khiba, a jour- nalist who stays in Khuma, the commu- nity is angry about a hike in taxi fares and the attitude of local taxi drivers.
Monday afternoon, the taxi associa- tions refused acceptance of the commu- nity’s memorandum of complaints.
On Tuesday, the taxi associations answered with a shutdown of their own and refused to operate taxis in Khuma, causing yet another day of no transport in Khuma.
At least one motorist’s car was da- maged by rioters and the police are keeping an eye on the situation.
Late on Tuesday afternoon, the community rejected new taxi fares pro- posed by the taxis and the shutdown continued until time of going to press on Wednesday September 7.

Lentswe, Khuma - Dr Andi Molokomme and a team from her NPO, Phenomenal Young Persons presented an academy ex- cellence award programme to learners of Dirang Kanatla High School in Khuma.
The former (2020/21) Klerksdorp- Tshepong Hospital intern came back to North West after almost a year to motivate outstanding performing matriculants, a project she embarked on with the school in 2021.
The NPO decided to partner with the school to hold Academic Excellence Awards annually to improve the learners overall academic performance. “Reward- ing learners for their hard work and
achievements is one way to inspire them and encourage them on the right path of life. It not only motivates the recipients but other fellow learners who witness their counterparts being awarded for their dili- gence,’’ Dr Molokomme said.
The ceremony didn’t just include awarding learners but various speakers encouraging and motivating the class of 2022 who started their preparatory exams recently. Over 30 awards were given to top achieving learners with the top five receiving incentive presents for their hard work. The new lucrative award that the Dr and her team added this year is the award called the Principal’s Award which
each learner now looks forward to add- ing to their many accolades. The award is awarded to a learner who is diligent, patri- otic and still performs well in their studies.
The learner receives a R200 food voucher and R500 to carry out a school/community project. “This is one way to ensure that learners are drawn to leadership and im- plementing innovative solutions in their world,’’ Dr Andile emphasised.
The event turned out to be very fruitful leaving many learners excited and hopeful towards their future goals and plans. The educators were all thankful and urged the learners to also follow in Dr Molokomme’s pathways.
