A day's work : a reading series for Aboriginal health workers

When a patient comes to the clinic I say,

"What is wrong with you ?"

If I cannot spell a hard word I ask sister for help.

If they are very sick I call the Doctor and ask for help.

I decide what is the best medicine to give the people who are sick.

When people are very sick I can also give injections.

I visit the old timers to see if they are okay.

I go to the swimming pool to see if the water is clean.

I tell people to buy good food.

In the afternoon if I am not busy in the clinic I go to the council office. I talk with the

community advisor.

I also talk with the workers to make sure the camp is kept clean.

Everyday I have lessons to help me learn to read and write better.

I go to the garage to see how work on my car is going.

I want to go hunting after work.

Other people like to have a beer at the hotel.

The hotel opens for a short time after work.

It sells beer only.
