NIKEN PRATIWI. A. 320 100 032, VIOLATION OF WOMEN’S RIGHT IN CARMEN BIN LADIN’S INSIDE THE KINGDOM: A FEMINIST APPROACH. RESEARCH PAPER. MUHAMMADIYAH UNIVERSITY OF SURAKARTA. 2014.
This major problem of this study is about violation of women’s right reflected in Carmen bin Ladin’s Inside the Kingdom memoir. The objective of this study is to analyze the novel based on its structural elements and to analyze the novel based on the feminist analysis.
In analyzing Inside the Kingdom memoir, the writer uses qualitative method and feminist approach. The object of the study is Carmen bin Ladin’s
Inside the Kingdom memoir which was published on July, 2004, in the United
States of America by arrangement with Warner Books, Time Warner Book Group New York, and consists of more than 200 pages. The data sources consist of primary data and secondary data sources. The primary data source is the Inside the
Kingdom memoir itself and the secondary data sources are books or any
information related with violation in women’s right that supports the feminist approach. The technique of data collection is Reading the memoir repeatedly, Identifying the problem and find the data, Collecting some supporting data from other references related to the topic, Selecting particular parts considered important and relevant for analysis and Drawing conclusion and formulate its pedagogical suggestion. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis.
Based on the analysis, the researcher draws some conclusions as follow: First, based on the structural analysis, it can be concluded that in this memoir Carmen bin Laden, conveys a message that everybody, including women, has the right to be themselves. Second, based on the feminist analysis, it can be concluded that in this memoir, the author reflects the life Inside the Kingdom in which the rights of women are violated. She also criticizes the practices that are not friendly to women.
