Hubungan antara Job Characteristics dengan Employee Engagement di
Perusahaan Telekomunikasi

ABSTRAK
Employee engagement dapat ditingkatkan apabila karyawan bereaksi
positif terhadap pekerjaan dan organisasi, salah satu caranya melalui peningkatan
job characteristics. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara job characteristics dengan employee engagement di perusahaan yang bergerak
dalam bidang telekomunikasi di kota Medan dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 210 karyawan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif korelasional dengan teknik pengambilan sampel incidental sampling. Alat ukur yang digunakan berupa skala job characteristics dan skala employee engagement. Hasil dari penelitian ini diperoleh adanya hubungan positif antara job characteristics dengan employee
engagement (r=0.639). Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan hubungan positif antara
aspek-aspek job characteristics dengan employee engagement, seperti; skill
variety (r=0.505, p<0.01), task identity (r=0.559, p<0.01), task significance (r=
0.430, p<0.01), autonomy (r=0.462, p<0.01), feedback (r=0.506, p<0.01). Selain itu untuk mengetahui aspek-aspek job characteristics yang berkontribusi terhadap
employee engagement digunakan metode analisis regresi stepwise. Diperoleh ada
empat aspek yang berkontribusi terhadap employee engagement, yaitu task
identity, skill variety, autonomy dan feedback. Hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi
acuan bagi organisasi untuk membuat kebijakan yang dapat membuat karyawan bereaksi positif terhadap pekerjaan dan organisasi. Implementasinya, penelitian ini dapat membantu organisasi memahami bagaimana meningkatkan employee
engagement berdasarkan karakteristik dari pekerjaan yang dipersepsikan oleh
karyawan.

Relationship between Job Characteristics and Employee Engagement in a

ABSTRACT
Employee engagement can be enhanced if employees reacted positively to the job and the organization, through increasing of job characteristics. This study aims to determine the relationship between job characteristics and employee engagement in a telecommunication company in Medan and involved 210 employees. This study was quantitative correlation and using incidental sampling. The measuring instruments were job characteristics scale and employee engagement scale. The results showed a positive relationship between job characteristics and employee engagement (r = 0639). This results also showed a positive relationship between job characteristics aspects and employee engagement, such as: skill variety (r=0.505, p<0.01), task identity (r=0.559, p<0.01), task significance (r= 0.430, p<0.01), autonomy (r=0.462, p<0.01), feedback (r=0.506, p<0.01). In addition, to determine the aspects of the job characteristics on employee engagement, stepwise regression method was used. Based on analysis it showed that there were four aspects contributed to employee engagement; task identity, skill variety, autonomy and feedback. The results of this study could be a reference to create policies that can make employees reacted positively to the job and the organization. Implementation, this study can help organizations understand how to improve employee engagement based on the characteristics of jobs are perceived by employees.
