Year 2011/2012)

The aim of this research was to know whether Numbered Head Together technique can improve students’ speaking competence. This research was conducted at MI MA’ARIF NU Sidabowa with 15 students of class V as the subject of the research. It was done for six months from (September 2011 – February 2012).

The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of the research. The researcher did this research collaboratively with the English teacher. The CAR was done based on the Kemmis and McTaggart’s design. The researcher took two cycles with two actions in each cycle.

The data were collected through questioners, interview, observation, and speaking tests (pre test and post test). The researcher employed quantitative and qualitative as technique for analyzing data. The quantitative data were analyzed by using speaking tests (pre test and post test), while the qualitative data were analyzed based on the observation result of students’ activities in the class, interview and questionnaire.
