Abstract
The studies on the transfer of L1 (English) into L2 (Indonesian) in the area of syntax, have influentially shown an affection on the acquisition of the target language (Indonesian). This research aims to analyze the syntactical transfer made by three Indonesian learners whose first language is English. Data were obtained by conducting two instruments of tests. The first instrument is by using the discrete point-test (specific areas of grammatical knowledge) (Oxford, 1982) and the focus of the test is the syntax, focussing on word order, clauses, and negation. The second instruments is by giving an oral test (direct integrative) (Oxford, 1982). Errors can occur in many areas such the error on the object complement, passive voice, noun phrase. Thus, a new category occurs in analysing the data. The writer asked three Indonesian learners about their experiences living in Salatiga using Indonesian language and it was recorded. The analysis shows that many transfer in the area of syntax mostly occurred in the spoken language (direct integrative).
