ABSTRACT
Blood glucose is the main type of sugar found in the blood and the main source of energy. Sugar and honey is one of the sweet foods that contain lots of sugar. The aim of the research is to determine differences in blood sugar levels (BSL) after consumption of sugar, nusantara honey, and clover honey.
The type of research is experimental pretest-post test design. The location of research is at the Department of Pharmacology Therapeutics FK USU Medan from September-October 2016.
The study population are students of FK USU Medan Batch 2013/2014 and a sample of 8 people who are determined based on the formula of hypothesis testing for two average population. Types of data collected are primary data, namely BSL measurement results. A variant of Anova test followed by Post hoc
LSD (Least Significant Difference) with a significance level α = 0.05 is used for
the difference of more than two study variables.
The results showed that there are differences in the BSL after consumption of 50 grams of sugar, 50 grams of clover honey, and 50 grams of nusantara honey. On average BSL of students after consumption of 50 grams of sugar was16627.63±1983.989mg min/dl, 50 grams of clover honey18468.125 ±1426.647 mg min/dl and 50 grams of nusantara honey16046.25±1399,698 mg min/dl. BSL differences between sugar and nusantara honey has a value of p = 1,000, clover honey and nusantara honey is p =0,021, and sugar and clover honey is p = 0,103.
Therefore, there is statistically significant differences of AUC BSL of the three groups administered but the use of honey can be considered instead of sugar as a sweetener to control BSL.
