REVIEW OF THE RELATED THEORIES

Theoretical Review

  • The Concept of Reading Comprehension
  • The Concept of Predicting Strategy
  • Teaching Reading trough Predicting Strategy

Reading comprehension is not a static competence; it varies according to the reading purposes and the text involved. Reading comprehension is an activity of reading by understanding the meaning of written text where a reader comes into direct contact with the text. This refers to the easy understanding of the information explicitly stated in the text.

The reading teacher must be careful in choosing the text and giving the tasks because it is related to the students' reading comprehension.

Theoretical Framework and Paradigm

  • Paradigm

Based on the above figure, it can be assumed that the prediction strategy is good, the students' reading comprehension is also good. So, there is a positive and significant influence of using prediction strategy towards students' reading comprehension. So, there is no positive and significant impact of using prediction strategy on students' reading comprehension.

Hypothesis Formulation

There is a positive and significant influence of the use of prediction strategy on the reading comprehension of students in the tenth grade of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung. According to Evelyn Hatch, "The dependent variable, on the other hand, is the variable you observe and measure to determine the effect of the independent variable."36. The critical value of " χ2observed" was 15.24. The conclusion was the use of Prediction Strategy can affect students' Reading Comprehension in Tenth Graders of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung. This means that there was a positive and significant prediction strategy about the students' reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung.

  • Dependent Variable

Data Collection Method

  • Test
  • Documentation

The researcher will use a technique to obtain the correct data at SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung. Test is a way used to measure a person's ability or knowledge in a particular domain. 37 Camille Blachowicz and Donna Ogle, Reading Comprehension Strategies for Independent Learners, 2nd ed. (New York: The Guilford Press, 2008), p.64.

To know the reading comprehension of the students before the treatment, the researcher will use the pre-test to get some information or data. After the treatment, the post-test was done to see if the use of this strategy could affect the students' reading comprehension. Documentation is the method used to obtain information from the written language of the document (for example: books, journals, rules, notes and others).

The writer used the documentation method to get detailed information about the history of the school, the number of teachers, employers, students and organizational structure in the tenth grade of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung in the Academic Year 2016/2017.

Research Instrument

The author used the documentation method to get detailed information about the history of the school, the sum of the teacher, the employers, the students and the organizational structure of the tenth grade of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung in the academic year. The researcher uses Pre-test before treatment as control and Post-test instrument after treatment as experimental. The instrument which is used in the test in this research, it included pre-test and post-test on reading comprehension text result.

After collecting the data from the student, the researcher compared the results to measure whether there is a significant effect between using the prediction strategy on the students' reading comprehension. In this technique, data is taken from a list of observations about everything that happened during the teaching of the learning process, in terms of the teacher's treatment of the students, what method the teacher used and how the process worked.

Data Analysis Technique

Second, to investigate whether there is a significant influence of predictive strategy on the students' reading comprehension. Brief History about Establishment of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung is located at Sumbergedeon Street Sekampung No. This is due to better quality of the graduates of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung who have to attribute special skills to different majors.

To measure the students' reading comprehension, the researcher used the pre-test before treatment was given. Based on the table above, it can be seen that the students who passed the test were the students who got score more than 70, there were 6 students or 27.3%. It was beneficial to know the influence of using Prediction Strategy on the students' reading comprehension from the results of those tests.

It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which explains "there is a positive and significant influence of the use of prediction strategy towards students' reading comprehension was accepted and Ho was rejected". To find out whether there is a positive and significant influence of the use of prediction strategy on the reading comprehension of students in the tenth grade of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung East Lampung. The researcher has formulated the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) as: “there is a positive and significant influence of the use of prediction strategy that can affect the reading comprehension of students in the tenth grade of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung.

Therefore, it can be concluded that “there was a positive and significant impact from the use of the strategy Prediction can affect the reading comprehension of students in the tenth grade of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung. The variables were tested using the formula of Chi-square and T-test to investigate whether there is a positive and significant influence of the use of prediction strategy towards the reading comprehension of students in the tenth grade of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung. This research result was conducted in SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung on tenth grade students about the impact of using prediction strategy on students' reading comprehension.

Based on the analysis of the research data, the researcher concludes in this research using prediction as the strategy was an alternative strategy that can affect students' reading comprehension. Pre-test score of reading comprehension students in tenth grade of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung. Post-test score of students reading comprehension in grade ten of SMK 2 Ganesa Sekampung.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

Description of the data

  • Research setting
  • Research data

Hypothesis Testing

After administering the oral test method, the researcher analyzed the data using Chi-Square (χ2) with two variables to prove if there is any positive and significant influence of use. Then know the critical value of Chi square the researcher first counted df, it was degree of freedom. First, the researcher prepared the table and put the data into the formula t-test as below to get "t_observation".

To know the critical value of t-test (ttable), the researcher first counted df, df is degree of freedom. From the value above it can be deduced that there is a positive and significant influence of Prediction Strategy on students.

Interpretation

The fact shows that there has been an increase in students with low and high results. By using the prediction strategy in teaching reading, it made the students easily recognize the content of the text. Moreover, the prediction can be the solution for the teacher to teach the students in reading comprehension, the students will be more interested in the learning process.

The students should be more active in learning English, if they don't understand their teacher's lesson, they should ask the teacher. Camille Blachowicz and Donna Ogle, Reading Comprehension Strategies for Independent Learners, 2nd Edition New York: The Guilford Press, 2008 Catherine Snow E., Reading for Comprehension: Towards an Inquiry and . The dog used to take care of the baby while working in the paddy field.

He called one of the elephants in his herd that had not been caught in the trap to go seek help from the king and told him about the trapped elephants. Just then, I heard a fire truck outside and the heavy steps of the firemen on the stairs. Tio was on vacation and was near the Statue of Liberty.

A good reader will allow concentration to blend with the book, not just understand the deeper meanings of the text. A good reader will allow concentration to mix with the book, and not just understand the deeper meanings of the text (an error).

Discussion

Limitations

When the man looked around the nursery, he found a large snake lying on the floor.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Conclusion

After analyzing the data using the t-test formula, the researcher found that the critical value of tobserved was 9.25. In addition, after analyzing the data using the Chi-Square formula, the researcher found that the critical value of χ2observed was 13.38. It means there was a significant influence. Therefore, it can be deduced that Ha was accepted and became Ho.

Suggestion

She took the tea cups into the kitchen and I heard her scream and the cups fell on the floor.
