Many factors can cause students' speaking skills, among others, students' interest, material, media and techniques in teaching English. The teacher asks the students to develop the dialogue in front of the class without asking them to develop a more communicative dialogue using their own way. So they just memorize the conversation and most of the students don't know how to use some expressions taught by their teacher in real communication.

In learning to speak, especially at UPT SMPN 4 Pinrang, students are challenged to express their opinions in the learning process. They fear to speak and sometimes choose to remain silent when the teacher asks, especially when the teacher asks verbal questions to the students. But sometimes students can be braver to speak English with their friends because they are freer to express their opinion.

The use of brainstorming technique affects students' speaking accuracy in terms of pronunciation in UPT SMPN 4 Pinrang. The purpose of this research will focus on describing the effect of brainstorming technique in promoting students' speaking skills in UPT SMPN 4 Pinrang.

The purpose of the post-test was to know the significance of students' fluency in terms of smoothness and accuracy in terms of pronunciation in speaking skills. The purpose of the test as the research tool was to collect the data about the students' speaking Fluency in terms of smoothness and Accuracy in terms of pronunciation with used brainstorming technique method. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Findings

This research was conducted among the VIII.6 students of UPT SMPN 4 Pinrang in the academic year 2022/2023, which consists of 32 students. The results of the data showed that teaching speaking through brainstorming techniques can improve student performance. Based on the post-test data above, as clearly shown, the mean of the total post-test score was 80.31, the minimum was 70, the maximum was 90, and the standard deviation was 5.378.

Based on the result, it was concluded that the effect of using the brainstorming technique was able to make a greater contribution to teaching and learning speaking. Based on the percentage percentage in table 4.7 in the pretest, it turns out that there are no excellent and very good students. Based on the result, it is concluded that the effect using the "brainstorming" technique is able to make a good contribution to the teaching and learning of speaking, especially in the accuracy in terms of pronunciation.

In order to determine the level of significance of the pre-test and post-test, the researcher used a t-test analysis at the level of significance (p) + 0.05 with the degree of freedom (dl) = N-1, where N- is the number of the item (32. It means that there was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest score in speaking.

Discussion

Based on the problem above, the researcher gave the treatment using a brainstorming technique so that the students could show the improvement in post-test. While the post-test is higher than the average score of pre-test, the post-test in fluency in terms of smoothness is 80.31. The researcher suggests the students to learn to speak more actively and more bravely to speak and explain their idea because it is very important to improve their speaking.

Because mastering English requires more method or technique to improve it, and the researcher suggests that the teacher should be more patient to help the students solve their English learning problem. It is suggested to apply the method to different levels of the students, because each school has a different level of students.
