As part of cooperative learning approach, Group investigation is one of the techniques that can be used in speaking teaching. For English teachers, it is expected that the use of the Group Inquiry Technique will increase knowledge and experience regarding learning strategies that can be used in managing the learning process, especially in the teaching of speaking at Al-Barokah Islamic Senior High School.

Research Approach and Design

This chapter presents the research method of this current research which consists of research approach and design, research location, research topic, data collection technique, data analysis, data validity and research procedure. The researcher chose the descriptive qualitative research design for this study because it was appropriate for the phenomenon that took place in a society that was deeply involved in emotions, expression, motivation and ambition according to the field as the research location in the second degree of Al- Barokah Islamic Senior High School. This means that the outcome of this research was described starting with some activities such as the preliminary study, then when the technique was carried out and the instruments used, and finally when the data was analyzed.

Research Location

The fourth reason why GI is appropriate for the student's condition is that it helps students with their speaking skills. The uniqueness of the research site as the field of this research was that all students in this school have a program, English club, that boosted them to speak English a lot outside of school like in their boarding school. Thus, by using this technique, students readily accepted it as an effective alternative to the teaching-learning process in the classroom and helps students' speaking skills.

Research Subject

The type of purposive sampling used in this study was homogeneous phenomenon appropriate sampling. Based on the above information, this survey was semi-structured and personal. As a result, this study used only 14 students from the second grade of Al-Barokah Islamic Higher Secondary School as research subjects to conduct observations.

The interview was then conducted with four female students and one English teacher from the second grade of Al-Barokah Islamic High School. Moreover, the researcher assumed that research subjects can provide information about GI on the teaching-learning process.

Data Collection Technique

A participant observer is a researcher who takes on an observational role while participating in activities in the environment under observation. A non-participant observer is someone who comes to the site and takes notes without getting involved in the activities of the participants.55. The general procedure is outlined in the following steps: first select a site to be observed that will help you understand the central phenomenon.

The reason was the researcher's focus on observing and recording notes during the observational activities without being involved in the participants' activities. One-on-one interviews are a type of data collection method in which the researcher solicits and records responses from one study participant at a time. In this study, one-on-one interviews were conducted with the English teacher at Al-Barokah Islamic High School, while focus group interviews were conducted with four students in the second grade of Al-Barokah Islamic High School.

Researchers can get information stored in a document in the form of photo archives, journal activities, lists of student names, student daily scores, and so on.

Data Analysis

In addition, the data analysis for students in high school and above was conducted using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's concept of qualitative data analysis. The activity of data condensation begins with the researcher selecting, focusing, simplifying, abstracting, and transforming data from the topic to be researched, such as written field notes, interview transcripts, documents, and other empirical material by condensing that can make data stronger. In this study, the researcher wrote summaries of what was learned from the data collection, which i.a.

The data display activity refers to the researcher's attempt to design displays by determining the rows and columns of a qualitative data matrix and deciding what data, in what form, to enter into the cells; thus, analytical activities are used. In this phase, the data was organized by obtaining the collected data. The researcher then described the results of the data content by drawing and verifying conclusions.

After presenting the collected data and gaining an in-depth understanding of the data, the researcher verified the data by checking the correlation of the data with the data presented, with new data that could be used as conclusions about the purpose, materials, steps, and evaluation of teaching speaking skills through GI.

Data Validity

Depending on the size of the corpus of field notes, the methods of coding, storage and retrieval used, the sophistication of the researcher and any necessary deadlines to be met, the "final" conclusions may not emerge until the data collection is complete. After collecting data through non-participant observation, one-on-one interviews, focus group interviews and document review, the researcher had to compare all the instruments. Then, in this study, for example, interview data provided a positive perception of GI because it was supported by observational results.

Research Procedure

In permit processing, the researcher took a permit to campus in advance, visited the research field to obtain permission, and then undertook a research phase. After obtaining consent, the researcher began exploring to better understand the background of the research object to assist the researcher in unearthing the data. After completing the previous phases, the final phase was to prepare the necessary instrument before the study could be conducted.

After all the data is collected, analyze all the data with qualitative analysis techniques by presenting an overview of the data obtained during the data collection - the result of the analysis described in the data exposition and research findings. After the data was conducted and collected from the result of observation, interview and document review, the data was analyzed with the model of Huberman and Saldana. The reporting phase is the preparation of research results in the form of a university thesis following the guidelines applicable to Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember Islamic State University.

After all, this research was tested and revised for the very last time after the exam was taken.
