THE INFLUENCE OF JIG SAW TECHNIQUE ON READING COMPREHENSION IN THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF THE MA AL. Thesis by: Ahmad Gozali, NIM titled “The Students' The Influence of Jigsaw Technique towards reading comprehension at the second grade Students of the Ma Al-Jamil Bare Eleh in the academic year met the requirement and was approved by the thesis advisors to investigate. Title: The influence of puzzle technique on reading comprehension in the second grade students of the Ma Al-Jamil Bare Eleh in the academic year 2020/2021.

All praises to Allah SWT., the Lord of the universe who has helped me in completing this thesis. Nurul Lailatul Khusniah, M.Pd, as Head of the English Language Education Study Program and my advisor, who has given me his expert guidance and support to complete this thesis. It can be concluded that the use of the jigsaw technique significantly affects students' reading comprehension.

According to Novak in Juhaendi, conventional teaching is about the teacher being the controller of the learning environment. The students said they are still learning where the teacher is at the center of the study, especially when teaching narrative text. One of the reading strategies that can be an option to apply is the puzzle technique.

For teachers, the result of the study can be an alternative way to overcome some problems in teaching reading, which is more enjoyable and can improve students' reading comprehension. Additionally, collaborative reading describes reading comprehension as the interpretation of a read text. In summary, reading comprehension is the student's ability to understand the literal and inferential meaning of the reading text, which is represented by the student's achievement score.

The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of the Jigsaw technique to develop students' reading comprehension in narrative text. The result of this research showed that the result in the experimental class of 40 students in the class, the mean of the pre-test obtained was 66.6 and the mean of the post-test was 77.7. The above result showed that the use of Jigsaw technique is more effective in teaching reading skills.16. 27P. The gains declared by Carolyn Kessler are especially from students because as students they have the main task in the jigsaw technique. Boredom, the ability to compete and the weakness to work in a group can prevent the application of the jigsaw technique. According to the shortcomings noted above, teachers who want to use the jigsaw technique should anticipate all possibilities that may occur.

Alternative hypothesis (Ha): The jigsaw puzzle technique has a significant impact on reading comprehension in second grade students of MA AL Jamil Bare Eleh. Null hypothesis (Ho): The jigsaw puzzle technique does not affect reading comprehension in second grade students of MA AL Jamil Bare Eleh. To improve their reading comprehension, the researcher will present the puzzle technique in this study and observe whether this technique affects students' reading comprehension.

Content-related validity refers to the extent to which the items on a test are sufficiently representative of the entire domain the test aims to measure. It also uses some expert to judge the validity of the content42. Miftahul Jannah, M.Pd as one of the lecturer of the English Department in UIN Mataram as the expert to give the judgment of the validity of the content.

Reliability refers to a measure of the stability or consistency of the test results.43 In this research, the researcher uses inter-rater reliability. The first observer in this research is the researcher and the second observer is the English teacher of the second grade students of MA AL Jamil Bare Eleh. After knowing the level of normality of the data, the homogeneity test is performed.

Based on the above table, the significance is known as 0.198 > 0.05, so it can be concluded that the variance data of pre-test and post-test are homogeneous. Moreover, the result of this research was consistent with the result of the previous research by Restu Widoyoko who found a big difference in the scores of the students. Due to the implementation of this technique, it is very easy and makes students more active in the classroom.

RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Research Findings

The result of calculations using SPSS before treatment (pretest) gave a valid sample number of 20, the minimum score was 44, the maximum score was 77 and the mean was 63.80, the standard deviation was 9.839. Based on the diagram above, the majority of pre-test score frequency is 55 as many as 7 students (35%) and 66 as many as 7 students (35%). The calculation result using SPSS after treatment (pretest) got a valid sample number of 20, the minimum score was 66, the maximum score was 88 and the mean was 79.20, the standard deviation was 7.654.

Based on the chart above, most of the pre-test result frequency lies in the score 55 as many as 7 students (35%) and score 66 as many as 7 students (35%).

Prerequisite testing analysis

Considering that result, the hypothesis test used in this case was the Wilcoxon test to know if there is a significant difference between the result before and after the treatment using the student reading comprehension puzzle technique. It showed that there are significant differences between these two results and indicated that the use of the jigsaw puzzle technique affects the students' reading comprehension. Moreover, based on the above result, it has been proven that teaching reading using the puzzle technique can influence students' reading comprehension.

By looking at the score he concluded that learning using Jigsaw technique in teaching reading skill can increase reading comprehension ability.45 Compared to the recent study, this previous study focuses on the difference performance between the experimental and control class for and after the treatment while the recent study focuses on one class (experimental class only). As a result of this research which found that there is a significant influence of the use of puzzle technique on students' reading comprehension, this technique is very good to be applied as a main teaching technique. This research was an experimental research conducted among the second grade students of MA Al-Jamil Bare Eleh.

This research sought to determine whether the use of the puzzle technique has a significant effect on students' reading comprehension. Students should pay attention to the strategy used in the classroom to improve their reading ability.
