Background and Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the brain cognitive functions of medical students with high and low academic performances.
Materials and Methods: The research sample consisted of all students at the Lorestan University of Medical Science. A sample of 120 students with low academic performance and 120 students with high academic performance were selected randomly. A questionnaire was used to gather information on cognitive abilities. Data was analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance through SPSS19.
Results: The findings showed that there is a significant difference between students with high and low academic performances. That is, individuals with greater cognitive abilities had high academic performances.
Conclusion: The results of this study have important implications in terms of improving the quality of teaching and learning through taking into account the brain cognitive abilities.
Keywords: Brain cognitive functions, High academic performance, Low academic performance
