Effect of total quality management

in determining the educational needs of critical wards nurses

Abstract

Aims: This research aimed to evaluate the effect of total quality management (TQM) in determining the educational needs of criticalwards nurses.

Methods: This study performed on 80 randomly selected criticalwards nurses of Hazrat-e-Rasool and Firoozgar hospital in Tehran. Participants devided into two groups; A test group that TQM had been administrated to them (Hazrat-e-Rasool hospital) and a control group that had never been taught about TQM (Firoozgar hospital). Total quality management and educational need-assessment questionnaires filled in both groups as a posttest.

Results: Determination of educational needs of criticalwards nurses that TQM has applied in their hospital was significantly higher than those without TQM. There is a significant distinction between educational needs of nurses who have been concerned with TQM. There was a meaningful difference between TQM parameters in providing health care.

Conclusion: Hospitals with a TQM system have taken training into consideration by focusing on training and promoting staff awareness.
