The Course Description in Brief:
This course introduces students to the modern drama, poetry and novel. Its primary purpose is to provide the students with a foundation of elementary skills necessary for understanding of literature. These skills will be further honed in the two following introductory courses. To achieve its goals, the course focuses on providing an elementary literary terminology as well as introducing students to one-act-plays, short poems and short stories.
The Course Objectives:
This course aims at giving the students a detailed introduction on the English literature. Its primary purpose is to provide the students with fundamental elementary skills necessary for appreciation of literature, those skills that will be more fully developed in the two following introductory courses.
Contents:
1. Short stories, especially stories by famous writers like Callaghan, Hemingway, Anderson, Stuart and Moss
2. Short poems by poets from modern age
3. Short plays to introduce students to the concept of drama and its elements in the theater
The Course Outcomes:
Scientific Skills:
Students will have general knowledge of literature and its genres. Also, they will identify some famous figures and their well known works.
Behavioral Skills:
Students will benefit from literature by studying and analyzing various works which will enrich their experience.
Analytical Skills:
Students will be able to analyze different cultures through various
literary works
Assessment Methods:
Assessment mechanism is based on a continuous assessment of in-class performance, assignments, periodic tests, and a final exam.
