UNION OF JEWISH WOMEN (BOKSBURG BRANCH)

The first annual meeting of the Union of Jewish Women (Boksburg branch) was held recently at the Grand Hotel, Boksburg.

Mrs. F. Behrmann, of Johannes- burg, who was the guest of honour, delivered an interesting address on the aims and objects of the Unio.n.

The re-elected president, Mrs. H.

Friedman, in reviewing the activities of the Union during the past year, said that in addition to assisting all societies, the sum of £186 8s. 3d. had been raised and distributed to vari-

ous charities and war funds. At a card evening held at her home the sum of £50 had been raised for war funds. The society was al ~o repre-

sented o.n the Medical Aid for Russia Committee.

MR. LOUIS PINCUS VISITS CAPE TOWN

Mr. Louis Pincus, Chairman of the Zionist Socialist Party and a member Qf the Executive Council of the S.A. Zionist Federation, has left Johannesburg on a short visit to Cape Town. He addressed a mass meeting on Sunday evening at the Zionist Hall when he spoke on "Zionism in a World of Reality."

On Wednesday evening a private gathering was held in Oranjezicht for the purpose of enabling residents of the city to meet Mr. Pincus in in- formal manner and to di. cuss current Jewish and Zionist affairs with him.

Similar gatherings were held in other district. in the Cape Provinee.

Mr. Pincus is due to addiess a number of meetings in the W stern Province and his stay in Cape Town will formall ' close with a reeeption by the Zionist Socialist Party on Saturday, the 25th inst., at the Hotel Avalo.n, ape Town.

"ESCAPE FROM THE PAST"

Play by Dr. _\Vulf Sachs

Dr. Wulf Sachs is the author of a play which is to be staged at the Library Theatre on 31st Ju)y, for one week. Entitled "Escape from the Past," the play is an interesting psy- chological study showing that miiy those who succeed in escaping from the past can make a success of life.

The performance is being given to assist the funds of Medical Aid for Russia. The cast includes many well- known players, among them being May Edouin, Freda Gray, Fred Loehnen, and Julius Sergay.

Miss Rose Ehrlich is the producer.

Mr. L. R. Dison recently visited Vrede in the interests of the Information and Organisation Department of the S.A. Zionist Federation.
