ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION

Analytical exposition adalah teks yang menguraikan ide penulis tentang sebuah feomena yang ada disekitarnya. Penulis ingin meyakinkan pembaca bahwa topik yang disajikan adalah topik yang penting untuk dibahas atau mendapat perhatian dengan cara pemberian argumen-argu- men atau pendapat-pendapat yang mendukung ide pokok atau topik tersebut

Communicative Purpose

To convince the readers/listeneners to agree with the writer’s opinion about a certain issue. (Untuk meyakinkan para pembaca atau pendengar agar setuju dengan pendapat penulis tentu- kan sebuah isu tertentu)

Example of Analytical Exposition

Analytical Exposition Texts can be found in newspapers editorials, debates, and speeches.

Text Organization

• Thesis (memperkenalkan topik, menunjukkan pendapat penulis, serta memberikan garis be- sar pada argument penulis)

• Arguments (mendukung tesis dengan menghadirkan serangkaian argument)

• Reiteration (menyimpulkan pendapat penulis)

Language Features

• Simple present tense, e.g. The condition of uncleanliness and discomfort really hinders learn- ing and teaching environment.

• Words that qualify statements, e.g. usual, probably, etc. • Words that link arguments, e.g. irstly, however, therefore, etc. • Passive voice, e.g. A number of dustbins should be increased. • Modal auxiliaries, e.g. should, can, could, etc.

• Connectors, e.g. then, after that, etc.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the prosecu- tion will prove to you that he is the accused. He had the motives, opportunity and ability to commit the crime and this will be shown in the evidence pre- sented to you.

Firstly, the accused needed money. He was in debt, owing the bank over $100,000. He had no chance of repaying this, therefore, he needed quick money. That’s why he stole the Macquire Diamond.

Secondly, the accused had the opportunity. As a security guard he could come and go from the ex- hibition of the diamond without causing suspicion. He had a plenty of time on the night of the robbery to take the diamond, hide it and then return to his post before the next guard came on duty.

Finally, the accused had the ability to take the Macquire Diamond. He had knowledge of the alarm system and had keys to unlock the display case. On this evidence you have no other choice but to ind him guilty.

Use of Formalin and Other Additives in Foods

The use of formalin and other dangerous preser- vatives in food has been a serious for two reasons. Firstly, formalin is not for human beings, but it is for biological specimen and experiments. Formalin in biology is a 10% solution of formaldehyde in water which is usually used as a disinfectant or to preserve biological specimens. Thus, it is not for food preser- vative, it will be very dangerous to human’s body.

The second reason is that there is not tight con- trol from the government. This condition makes the people’s health is really in a threat. When the con- trol is weak and the use of formalin is spread wide

all over the Indonesia regions, and these days it has really happened, the citizens bodies will be badly contaminated with the poisons. Fish or food traders still sell their product which contain formalin and dangerous preservatives. Can you imagine that our degistive system absorbs the substance that should be for the human and animal corpses?

Considering the reasons, we can makes a conclu- sion that the use of formalin and other preservatives is really a serious problem if it is not resolved imme- diately.
