REGULATION 3.53—DIPLOMA IN TOWN AND REGIONAL PLANNING 1. A person may be a candidate for the diploma in Town and Regional Planning if he is a graduate with a degree approved by the Professorial Board on the recommendation of the Board of Studies pro- vided that a person who is not a graduate may take the course in com- bination with a course leading to a degree in the University if the proposed combined course is approved both by the Board of Studies and by the appropriate faculty.

2. Candidates for the diploma in Town and Regional Planning shall pursue their studies for at least two years, attend such lectures and classes and perform such practical work as may be prescribed by the board of studies and pass the prescribed examinations.

3. The subjects of the course for the diploma and the conditions under which subjects may be taken shall be as prescribed by the Pro- fessorial Board on the recommendation of the Board of Studies and pubhshed with the details of subjects.

4. A candidate who passes in any subject or subjects shall be entitled to credit therefor but no candidate may receive credit for more than eight subjects passed at any one examination.

5. Candidates who have fulfilled the requirements of this regulation and have passed in all the subjects of the course may be granted the diploma in Town and Regional Planning, if he is a graduate or if he has qualified for a degree forming part of a combined course approved by the Board of Studies under Section 1 of this regulation.

[TEMPORARY REGULATION

1. A candidate who obtained credit for any subject or subjects of the course before the Slst March, 1971, may complete the course under the regulations in force on the Slst December, 1972.

2. This temporary regulation shall expire on the Slst March, 1979.]

REGULATION 3.54—DEGREE OF MASTER OF TOWN AND REGIONAL PLANNING

1. A person may be a candidate for the degree of master of Town and Regional Planning if he is a bachelor of Town and Regional Plan- ning, or—

( a ) he is:

(i) a bachelor of Engineering (Civil), or (ii) a bachelor of Surveying, or

(iii) a bachelor of Architecture, or

(iv) a graduate with a degree approved by the Professorial Board on the recommendation of the board of studies in Town and Regional Planning; and

( b ) he has completed the course for the diploma in Town and 430

BACHELOR OF BUILDING R 3.55 Regional Planning or has an equivalent qualification approved by the Professorial Board on the recommendation of the said board of studies.

2. A candidate for the degree of master of Town and Regional Planning shall pursue advanced studies and research for at least one vear full-time and attend such lectures and classes, and perform such prac- tical work, as may be prescribed by the board of studies in Town and Regional Planning: Provided that if the board of studies is of the opinion that a candidate is not engaged in full-time study in the University the board of studies may require the candidate to pursue his studies for not less than two years. 'Full-time study' in this context means a course of study extending over the full academic year and involving attendance at the University.

3. (1) A candidate shall submit for examination the results ol his research in the form of a thesis.1

(2) The thesis shall be submitted within twelve months after the can- didate his completed his advanced studies and research in accordance with the provisions of section 2 of this regulation;

Provided that the board of studies may extend the said period of twelve months.

4. The examination for the degree of master of Town and Regional Planning shall be for pass and honours, which honours shall not be classified.

5. A candidate who has fulfilled the conditions prescribed may be admitted to the degree of master of Town and Regional Planning.

REGULATION 3.55—DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF BUILDING 1. (1) There shall be a degree of bachelor of Building, and a degree of bachelor of Building with honours.

(2) A candidate for either degree shall after matriculation pursue his studies for four Years, pass the prescribed examinations, obtain the prescribed practical experience, and comply with the provisions of this regulation.

2. The subjects of the course for each degree and the conditions under which such subjects may be taken shall be as prescribed by the Profes- sorial Board on the recommendation of the faculty and published with the details of subjects.

3. During each Year a candidate shall perform field, laboratory and drawing office work and attend demonstrations and excursions. These requirements shall be prescribed by the Professorial Board on the recom- mendation of the faculty and published with the details of subjects.

Subject to dispensation granted by the faculty in special cases no candi- date shall be admitted to examination in a subject in which he has not performed such practical work unless he has satisfied the faculty that he has had the necessary practical training elsewhere.

4. (a) To pass a Year of a course a candidate shall comply with one of the following conditions:

(i) he shall pass at an annual examination in or obtain credit for each subject of that Year; or

(ii) he shall be passed by the faculty in the Year of the course as a whole. In awarding such pass the faculty shall take into account his performance in all subjects in accordance with principles determined by the faculty from time to time and approved by the Professorial Board. A can- didate passed by the faculty in the Year as a whole who has not passed at the annual examination in or ob- tained credit for any particular subject shall not be re- corded as having passed in that subject, but shall be allowed to proceed with subjects of a later Year of the course for which a pass in such subjects may be a pre-

requisite,

( b ) A candidate who before the beginning of any academic year has not passed a Year of the course in accordance with sub- section ( a ) hereof:

(i) shall take or repeat in that academic year or in a sub- sequent year the whole of that Year of the course which he has not completed save that a candidate shall not be re- quired to repeat any subject which he has passed and is taught by any other faculty;

(ii) may not take any subjects of a subsequent Year of the course;

unless special permission to do otherwise is granted by the faculty.

5. Every candidate shall, during the long vacations at the end of the First and Second Years, and during one year after the completion or in the opinion of the faculty, the substantial completion of the Third Year, engage in acquiring a practical knowledge of building; Provided that the full period of such practical experience shall be not less than twelve calendar months.

Every candidate shall, before entering on this work, submit to the faculty for approval the conditions under which he proposes to gain his practical experience and shall, after completing the work, submit a certified record satisfactory to the faculty that he has fulfilled the approved conditions.

6. Candidates may be admitted to the degree of bachelor of Building who have—

( a ) completed the work and passed or obtained credit for each Year of the course as a whole;

(b) presented certificates satisfactory to the faculty of having com- phed with the requirements of section 5.

DECREE WITH HONOURS

7. A candidate for the degree of bachelor of Building with honours shall:

(a) complete the work and pass the examinations of the four years, at a standard prescribed by the faculty; and

( b ) present certificates satisfactory to the faculty of having com- plied with the requirements of section 5; and

(c) complete to the satisfaction of the faculty such additional studies

8. A candidate who has fulfilled the requirements of section 7 may be admitted to the degree of bachelor of Building with honours.

[TEMPORARY REGULATION

1. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in Regulation 3.55, a candidate enrolled in the course for the degree of bachelor of Building on or before the 30th June, 1966, may elect to acquire practical experience in accordance with the regulation in force at that date.

2. This Temporary Regulation shall expire on the Slst December, 1969.]

REGULATION 3.56—DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF MUSIC
