Did you know that The Hills Shire Council looks after 31 venues with 82 individual rooms, 88 sporting fields, 37 tennis courts and two major venues?

These are community-owned assets and Council has been working hard to make access fairer and more equitable. A recent review has led to a range of measures that will assist community groups and residents in gaining greater access.

Over the years, Council has not distinguished between community not-for-profit activities and commercial use. By benchmarking our venues against other Council areas, our new structure represents the fairest outcome for the community. Our new online booking system also provides an improved way for you to access these venues.

The new measures being taken to accommodate the needs of all hirers are:

• New fees have been designed that will create the fairest outcome possible — distinguishing community not-for-profit and charity groups from businesses.

• Businesses will have a six-month period to prepare for the changes to commercial hire rates, which will come into effect from 1 January 2017.

• Businesses will also have access to free Council run workshops, which will provide training on business planning and skill development.

• We will strive to achieve the best fit between the size of each venue to match the number of people using it.

• New minimum hire times will assist with hirers’ setup and cleaning times.

• A new ‘function rate’ will apply for

venues that are suited to parties and social functions and this rate includes a security guard for the evening.

• In 2017, a new procedure that guarantees better access for the community will be introduced.

To stay up to date on these changes, you can subscribe to Council’s Venue Updates Newsletter - visit www.thehills.nsw.gov.au and search for ‘venues’.

Carrots baited with Pindone poison will then be placed in the reserve on two evenings during the advertised period. Any residual poison will be removed the following mornings.

The rabbit baiting program will run from Monday, 18 July to Friday, 19 August 2016.

The following reserves will be closed to all people and their pets from midday Monday, 18 July to midday Tuesday, 19 July and midday Thursday, 21 July to midday Friday, 22 July 2016.
