COMPANY’S PROFILE
PT. Pindo Deli Pulp And Paper Mills (“Pindo Deli” or “the Company”) was established in 1975 and now has three mills, located at Kelurahan Adiarsa-West Karawang, Desa Kuta Mekar-East Karawang and Perawang-Riau.
The Company owns 99,79% of PT. Lontar Papyrus Pulp & Paper Industry (“Lontar Papyrus”), which has a pulp and tissue factory in Tebing Tinggi, Jambi. Jointly these two companies represent one of the largest vertically integrated producers of pulp and paper in the world.
The Company produces a wide range of tissue and paper products that include: Photocopy Paper and Specialty papers such as Carbonless, Cast Coated, Art Paper, Uncoated Woodfree. Well-known Company brands include Bola Dunia, Golden Coin, Golden Star, Lucky Boss, Mirage, Impression, Anchor and Paseo.

PT. Pindo Deli Pulp And Paper Mills (“Pindo Deli” atau “Perseroan”) didirikan pada tahun 1975 dan saat ini memiliki tiga pabrik yang berlokasi di Kelurahan Adiarsa, Karawang Barat, di Desa Kuta Mekar, Karawang Timur dan di Perawang, Riau.
Perseroan memiliki 99,79% saham PT. Lontar Papyrus Pulp & Paper Industry (“Lontar Papyrus”) yang memiliki pabrik bubur kertas (pulp) dan tissue yang berlokasi di Tebing Tinggi, Jambi. Integrasi kedua perusahaan tersebut membuat Perseroan menjadi salah satu produsen pulp dan kertas terintegrasi vertikal terbesar di dunia.
Perseroan menghasilkan produk tissue dan kertas berkualitas tinggi, di antaranya: kertas Photocopy dan kertas-kertas khusus seperti Carbonless, Cast Coated, Art Paper, Uncoated Woodfree. Produk Perseroan menggunakan merek dagang yang cukup terkenal antara lain Bola Dunia, Golden Coin, Golden Star,

The consolidated net sales of the Company decreased from US$1,316.0 million in 2008 to US$1,269.7 million in 2009, or a 3.5% decreased.
The consolidated operating income of the Company increased from US$106.1 million in 2008 to US$124.2 million in 2009, or a 17.1% increased.
The consolidated net income of the Company decreased from US$67.3 million in 2008 to US$32.8 million in 2009, or a 51.3% decreased.
Penjualan bersih konsolidasi Perseroan mengalami penurunan dari US$1.316,0 juta pada tahun 2008 menjadi sebesar US$1.269,7 juta pada tahun 2009 atau turun sebesar 3,5%.
Laba usaha konsolidasi Perseroan tahun 2009 sebesar US$124,2 juta mengalami peningkatan sebesar 17,1% dibandingkan tahun 2008 sebesar US$106,1 juta.
Laba bersih konsolidasi Perseroan mengalami penurunan dari US$67,3 juta pada tahun 2008 menjadi US$32,8 juta pada tahun 2009 atau mengalami penurunan sebesar 51,3%.

Informasi Obligasi Perseroan
The Company’s Bond Information
Perseroan menerbitkan obligasi Pindo Deli I yang tercatat di Bursa Efek Indonesia (dahulu Bursa Efek Surabaya) sebesar Rp 200 milyar pada tahun 1997. Pada bulan September 2004, obligasi tersebut telah direstrukturisasi dan selanjutnya terbagi ke dalam 2 Tranche, yaitu Tranche A sebesar 50% jatuh tempo pada tanggal 1 Oktober 2014 dan Tranche B sebesar 50% jatuh tempo pada tanggal 1 Oktober 2017. Suku bunga ditetapkan sebesar suku bunga SBI 3 bulan + 2%, maksimum 14% per tahun untuk 3 tahun pertama. Dengan telah efektifnya
Master Restructuring Agreement (MRA) pada bulan April 2005,
obligasi Pindo Deli I tersebut turut serta dalam skema restrukturisasi sesuai dengan syarat dan ketentuan dalam MRA. Total saldo obligasi pada tanggal 31 Desember 2009 adalah sebesar Rp 112,9 milyar.
The Company issued Pindo Deli I Bonds amounted to Rp 200 billion, which was listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (previously called Surabaya Stock Exchange) in 1997. In September 2004, these bonds were restructured and subsequently divided into two (2) Tranches, Tranche A (50%) due on October 1, 2014 and Tranche B (50%) due on October 1, 2017. The interest rate for the first three (3) years from the effective date is three (3) month - Certificate of Indonesian Central Bank Rate plus 2% per annum (capped at 14% per annum). In April 2005, with the effective of Master Restructuring Agreement (MRA), these bonds are participated in the restructured scheme with the terms and conditions as set out in the MRA. The outstanding balance of the bond per December 31, 2009 is amounted Rp 112.9 billion.

Para Pemegang Saham yang terhormat,
Dalam kondisi krisis ekonomi global yang menimpa hampir semua negara dan semua sektor usaha, pada tahun 2009 Indonesia dan beberapa negara Asia seperti China, Vietnam, dan India masih mampu mencatatkan tingkat pertumbuhan ekonomi yang positif termasuk perekonomian Indonesia tumbuh sebesar 4,5%. Inflasi dapat dijaga dan hanya mencapai angka 2,78%. Kurs Rupiah relatif stabil dengan kecenderungan menguat. Indeks Harga Saham Gabungan Bursa Efek Indonesia ditutup pada level 2.534 meningkat 87% dibanding akhir tahun 2008 pada posisi 1.355.
Sebagai akibat krisis ekonomi global, PT. Pindo Deli Pulp and Paper Mills (“Pindo Deli” atau “Perseroan”) yang mengekspor sebagian besar produknya ikut terpengaruh. Pendapatan Perseroan turun dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya, hal ini terutama karena turunnya harga-harga serta permintaan atas produk Perseroan. Namun demikian Perseroan masih mampu meningkatkan laba usaha serta membukukan laba bersih pada tahun 2009. Diharapkan sejalan dengan proses pemulihan ekonomi global dari krisis keuangan, Perseroan akan dapat meningkatkan kembali kinerja di tahun berikutnya.
Berkaitan dengan implementasi Tata Kelola Perusahaan yang Baik (Good Corporate Governance / GCG), Perseroan memiliki komitmen untuk mengembangkan proses tata kelola perusahaan sesuai dengan prinsip-prinsip GCG yaitu transparansi, akuntabilitas, responsibilitas, independen, kewajaran dan kesetaraan (fairness). Langkah nyata penerapan GCG antara lain diwujudkan dengan pelaksanaan Whistleblowing Program sejak tanggal 11 Desember 2008.
Sehubungan dengan program pemenuhan kewajiban sosial terhadap masyarakat, Perseroan telah menjalankan aktivitas
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) di berbagai bidang, antara
lain program dan fasilitas kesehatan, bantuan pembangunan prasarana dan sarana pendidikan serta pemberian bea siswa kepada siswa yang tidak mampu, termasuk karyawan yang berprestasi. Dengan beragam kegiatan tersebut, Perseroan berharap dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan dan kemandirian masyarakat khususnya di sekitar tempat usaha Perseroan.

In the global economic crisis condition that affects almost all countries and business sectors in the year 2009, Indonesia and Asian countries such as China, Vietnam and India are still capable to post positive economic growth level which includes Indonesia’s 4.5% growth. Inflation only reached 2.78% and the Rupiah was relatively stable and even strengthened. Indonesian Stock Exchange Composite Index increased 87%, from 1.355 in end of 2008 to 2.534 in 2009.
As a result of the global economic crisis, PT. Pindo Deli Pulp and Paper Mills (“Pindo Deli” atau “Perseroan”) which exports most of its products was affected. Income of the Company decreased compared to the previous year, and it’s mainly due to low demand as well as the drop in product prices. Even so, the Company is still able to increase its operating profits and booked net income in 2009. While signs of global recovery have appeared, it is well hoped that the Company will heighten its performance in the following year.
Related to the implementation of Good Corporate Governance (Good Corporate Governance / GCG), the Company has a commitment to develop a process of corporate governance in accordance with the principles of GCG, transparency, accountability, responsibility, independency, and fairness. Concrete steps of GCG implementation, among others, realized with the implementation of Whistleblowing Program since December 11, 2008.
In relation to the fulfillment of social obligations to the public, the Company has carried out activities of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in various fields, among other programs and healthcare facilities, infrastructure development assistance, places of worship and education facilities as well as scholarship program to the local society, including to the high achievement employees. With a range of activities, the Company hopes to improve the welfare and independence of the community, especially in the vicinity of the Company.

Tahun 2010 akan menjadi tahun yang penuh tantangan bagi Perseroan. Dengan mulai pulihnya perekonomian global dari krisis dan meningkatnya pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia, akan memberikan peluang bagi Perseroan untuk mengembangkan diri. Oleh karena itu, kami mengajak seluruh lini organisasi Perseroan untuk terus meningkatkan prestasi dalam persaingan dunia usaha yang sehat melalui kinerja usaha terbaik.
Sebagai penutup, atas nama Dewan Komisaris, kami menyampaikan penghargaan dan terima kasih kepada Direksi dan jajarannya serta seluruh karyawan Perseroan yang telah membaktikan waktu dan dedikasi terhadap Perseroan. With the global economy recovering from the crisis and Indonesia’s economic growth that has been leveling up; these conditions will open up chances for the Company to develop further. Menjelang akhir tahun 2009, perekonomian Indonesia mulai menunjukkan tanda-tanda pemulihan dari krisis ekonomi global yang terjadi sejak tahun 2008. Indikator-indikator positif dapat dilihat antara lain, dari kenaikan Indeks Harga Saham Gabungan dari posisi 1.355 pada akhir 2008 menjadi 2.534 pada akhir 2009, kurs rupiah yang relatif stabil dan inflasi yang rendah sekitar 2,78%.
Atas nama Direksi, kami ingin menyampaikan kepada pemegang saham kinerja PT. Pindo Deli Pulp And Paper Mills (“Pindo Deli” atau Perseroan) selama tahun 2009. Sejalan dengan proses pemulihan krisis tersebut, kinerja Perseroan mulai menunjukkan perbaikan. Walaupun penjualan bersih tahun 2009 turun dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya, Perseroan mampu membukukan laba bersih. Berikut kami sampaikan sekilas kinerja Perseroan pada tahun 2009 dibandingkan dengan 2008:
Penjualan bersih konsolidasi Perseroan mengalami penurunan dari US$1.316,0 juta pada tahun 2008 menjadi sebesar US$ 1.269,7 juta pada tahun 2009 atau turun sebesar 3,5%.
Laba usaha konsolidasi Perseroan tahun 2009 sebesar US$ 124,2 juta mengalami peningkatan sebesar 17,1% dibandingkan tahun 2008 sebesar US$106,1 juta.
Laba bersih konsolidasi Perseroan mengalami penurunan dari US$67,3 juta pada tahun 2008 menjadi US$ 32,8 juta pada tahun 2009 atau mengalami penurunan sebesar 51,3%.
Penurunan penjualan terutama disebabkan oleh turunnya harga jual produk-produk Perseroan dan volume penjualan. Namun hal tersebut dapat diimbangi oleh turunnya beban pokok penjualan dan beban-beban lainnya sehingga laba usaha meningkat. Seiring dengan mulai pulihnya perekonomian dunia pada akhir tahun 2009, permintaan dan harga produk Perseroan mulai meningkat. Perseroan akan memanfaatkan momentum tersebut untuk meningkatkan kinerja di tahun berikutnya.
Walaupun terpengaruh oleh krisis, Perseroan mencatatkan nilai ekspor cukup tinggi, sehingga pada tahun 2009 untuk kedua kalinya memperoleh penghargaan Primaniyarta sebagai Eksportir Terbaik dalam Kategori Pembangun Merek Global pada kegiatan yang diselenggarakan oleh Badan Pengembangan Ekspor Nasional.

Towards the end of 2009, Indonesia’s economy has begun to show signs of recovery from the global economic crisis that occurred since 2008. Positive indicators can be seen from, among them, Indonesian Stock Exchange Composite Index increased from 1.355 in end of 2008 to 2.534 in 2009, the Rupiah was relatively stable and low inflation of about 2.78%.
On behalf of Directors, we would like to announce to the shareholders the performance of PT. Pindo Deli Pulp And Paper Mills (“Pindo Deli” or “Company”) during 2009. In line with the recovery process, the performance of the Company started to show progress. Eventhough net sales in 2009 were down compared to previous year, the Company could still booked net profits. Below is the highlight of the Company’s performance in 2009 compare to 2008:
The consolidated net sales of the Company decreased from US$1,316.0 million in 2008 to US$1,269.7 million in 2009, or a 3.5% decreased.
The consolidated operating income of the Company increased from US$106.1 million in 2008 to US$124.2 million in 2009, or a 17.1% increased.
The consolidated net income of the Company decreased from US$67.3 million in 2008 to US$32.8 million in 2009, or a 51.3% decreased.
The sales decline was primarily due to the falling price and sales volume of Company products. But it can be offset by the reduction in cost of sales and other burdens that operating income rose. Along with the world economy began recovering in late 2009, demand and price of products, the Company began to increase. The Company will use the momentum to improve performance in subsequent years.
Although affected by the crisis, the Company recorded that its export value is high enough, so that in year 2009 for the second time, the Company is awarded Primaniyarta Award as one of the Best Exporters, categorized in Global Branding Developer which was held by the National Export Development Bureaucracy.

Sepanjang tahun 2009 Perseroan telah melakukan langkah-langkah antisipatif untuk dapat meminimalisasi dampak dari krisis ekonomi, antara lain dengan meningkatkan kualitas produk agar dapat memenuhi harapan dan kebutuhan pelanggan, meningkatkan produktivitas dan efisiensi operasional melalui penurunan biaya dan penerapan anggaran secara ketat, menjaga kesinambungan pasokan bahan baku serta melanjutkan upaya penerapan tata kelola perusahaan yang baik.
Kami juga melaporkan bahwa selama tahun berjalan, Direksi telah bekerja sama dengan K o m i t e A u d i t u n t u k s e n a n t i a s a mengembangkan proses-proses tata kelola perusahaan yang baik (Good Corporate
Governance/GCG) sesuai dengan praktek
terbaik yang ada. Pada tahun 2009, Perseroan telah melakukan sosialisasi mengenai GCG kepada karyawan Perseroan baik yang ada di kantor pusat maupun di pabrik-pabrik.

During the year 2009 the Company has taken steps to minimize anticipatory effects of the economic crisis by improving product quality to meet customer expectations and needs, increasing productivity and operational efficiency through cost reduction and application of a strict budget, maintain continuity of supply of material raw as well as continue efforts to implement Good Corporate Governance.
We also reported that during the year, the Board of Directors has been working with the Audit Committee to continuously develop the processes of good corporate governance (Good Corporate Governance / GCG) in accordance with existing best practices. The Audit Committee during fiscal year 2009 had reviewed the Company’s Quarterly Financial Statement and had discussed it with the Company’s management. The Audit Committee also participated in reviewing the Company’s Annual Budget.
The Audit Committee held routine meetings with Internal Auditor to discuss its findings to enhance internal control. The Audit Committee also held meeting with the management and External Auditor to review the audited Company’s Consolidated Financial Statement for the year ended December 31, 2009.
The Company’s Consolidated Financial Statement for the year ended December 31, 2009 have been presented in accordance with the prevailing regulations.
Pursuant to the examinations and reviews as referred to above, the Audit Committee recommends to the Board of Commissioners that the audited Company’s Consolidated Financial Statement for the year ended December 31, 2009 is acceptable and can be reported in the Company’s Annual Report.

Sumber daya manusia adalah aset terpenting bagi PT. PindoDeli Pulp And Paper Mills (“Pindo Deli” atau “Perseroan”). Perseroan menyadari bahwa pengembangan sumber daya manusia memiliki korelasi langsung terhadap pengembangan perusahaan. Perseroan menerapkan sistem sumber daya manusia yang terintegrasi, dimulai dari perekrutan dan memberikan program pendidikan dan pelatihan baik internal maupun eksternal. Saat ini, Perseroan mempekerjakan sekitar 10.400 karyawan dengan perencanaan karir yang terprogram.

In 2009, the Company, APP and their exclusive fiber suppliers that operated under Sinar Mas Forestry made significant progress in improving environmental protection, supply chain management, conservation, and social and community empowerment programs.
Environmental Protection
The Company operates in compliance with the national laws on sustainability, fiber procurement, environmental protection, and health and safety. The regulations requirements are built into the Company’s policies and operating procedures which are continually monitored.
In 1999, the Company earned its initial ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) certification, and has been successful in maintaining this certification in subsequent years. This certification was upgraded to ISO 14001:2004, the latest

Perseroan juga telah memiliki sertifikasi ISO 9001 untuk SistemManajemen Mutu (SMM) sejak tahun 1996. Standar internasional ini memberikan jaminan bahwa Perseroan secara konsisten menghasilkan produk yang memenuhi standar kualitas sesuai dengan permintaan pasar.
Selain standar SML dan SMM, Perseroan juga telah memiliki sertifikat SMK3 (Sistem Manajemen Kesehatan & Keselamatan Kerja) dan telah memenuhi persyaratan-persyaratan dalam proses verifikasi tahunan oleh pihak ketiga. Pada tahun 2005, Perseroan juga berhasil memperoleh sertifikasi OHSAS 18001 untuk Sistem Manajemen dan Keselamatan Kerja, dan telah menyelesaikan proses audit tahunan pada akhir tahun 2009. Standar OHSAS 18001 merupakan standar global untuk kesehatan dan keselamatan kerja.
Program Penilaian Peringkat Kinerja Perusahaan dalam Pengelolaan Lingkungan (PROPER) yang disusun oleh Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup telah menjadi salah satu tolak ukur penting dalam kinerja suatu perusahaan di Indonesia. Pada tahun 2009, Perseroan memperoleh peringkat Proper Biru untuk kedua pabriknya. Peringkat PROPER ini diberikan kepada pabrik yang beroperasi dengan tingkat emisi di bawah ketentuan regulasi pemerintah serta menggunakan teknologi ramah lingkungan, meminimalisasi limbah, mencegah polusi, dan menghemat sumber daya.
Pada tahun 2009, Perseroan memperbaharui sertifikasi Ekolabel Indonesia dan Uni Eropa. Perseroan juga melakukan sertifikasi Ekolabel produk kertas foto kopi daur ulangnya untuk pasar Taiwan, serta memperbaharui komitmennya terhadap FDA (Food and Drug Association) untuk produk pembungkus makanan yang akan dipasarkan di Amerika.
Sebagai wujud atas komitmen Perseroan dalam memproduksi kertas dengan teknologi ramah lingkungan, Perseroan juga telah menerapkan program ‘Tiga R’ yang merupakan program penghematan sumber daya dengan Reduce, Reuse, Recycle dan mengintegrasikannya dalam operasional Sistem Manajemen Lingkungan Perseroan.
Perseroan menjalankan kebijakan manajemen limbah untuk mengurangi polutan, termasuk Kebijakan Pengendalian Sumber Daya dan Kebijakan ‘tiga R’. Dalam sistem pengolahan air
The Company has also achieved ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems (QMS) in 1996 and has maintained the certification. This international standard acts as an assurance for customers worldwide that the Company follows a consistent process in line with the most demanding standards in the industry.
Beseides EMS and QMS standard, the Company is also SMK3 (Occupational Health and Safety) certified, meeting or exceeding the government requirements and verified through annual third-party audits. In 2005, the Company also received the OHSAS 18001 standard certification for the mill’s occupational health and safety management systems. The Company has just passed the latest surveillance audit at the end of 2009. The OHSAS 18001 standards is the global benchmark for health and safety in working environments.
The Ministry of Environment has an established multi-level certification system based on the requirements of its Program for Pollution Control, Evaluation and Rating (PROPER). In 2009, the Company was awarded PROPER certificates by the Ministry in which the Company’s mills which are located at East Karawang and West Karawang, both achieved Blue level. The certification is given to mills that produce emissions at levels below those permitted by government standards and which use clean technology, minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.
In 2009, the Company renewed its Indonesian and European Union Ecolabel certifications. The Company also attained the Taiwan Ecolabel standard for its recycled photocopy paper and renewed its FDA (Food and Drug Administration) compliance statement for USA food grade paper.
As a proof of the Company’s commitment to produce paper in an environmentally-friendly way, the Company also practices the “three Rs” of good resource stewardship – reduce, reuse and recycle – and have incorporated these measures into their quarterly Environmental Management System management review of operations.
The Company enforces waste management policies to reduce pollutants. These include a “three Rs” Policy and a Source Control Policy. Waste water plants employ activated sludge

limbah, Perseroan menggunakan sistem endapan (sludge) aktifdengan perlakuan fisik dan kimiawi untuk membuat air limbah dapat dialirkan secara aman ke seluruh saluran air.
Produk-produk Perseroan telah memenuhi peraturan keamanan produk sesuai permintaan pasar di Eropa, Jepang, dan Amerika Serikat khususnya terhadap peraturan larangan penggunaan zat-zat berbahaya.
Sistem Pasokan Bahan Baku yang Bertanggung Jawab
Seluruh bahan baku yang digunakan Perseroan memiliki dokumentasi yang menjamin bahwa bahan baku tersebut berasal dari sumber yang dapat dilacak. Perseoran menggunakan sistem lacak balak (Chain of Custody/CoC) guna memastikan tidak ada bahan baku ilegal yang masuk ke dalam rantai pasokan.
Pada bulan Februari 2008, pabrik Perseroan memperoleh sertifikasi lacak balak dibawah standar PEFC (Programme for
the Endorsement of Forest Certification). PEFC adalah program
pengesahan standar sertifikasi hutan internasional terkemuka yang dilakukan melalui verifikasi pihak ketiga independen untuk memberikan jaminan kepada pembeli bahwa dengan diterapkannya mekanisme ini, mereka mendukung terlaksananya pengelolaan hutan yang bertanggungjawab. PEFC telah mensertifikasi sekitar 30 standar sertifikasi hutan nasional di seluruh dunia dan lebih dari 220 juta hektar hutan di dunia telah memiliki sertifikat PEFC. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa PEFC merupakan sistem standarisasi sertifikasi hutan terbesar di dunia.
Pada tahun 2009, Perseroan juga berhasil memperoleh sertifikasi lacak balak (Chain-of-Custody/CoC) dengan standar Lembaga Ekolabel Indonesia (LEI). LEI merupakan organisasi berbasis konstituen yang mendukung pengelolaan sumber daya hutan berkelanjutan dengan cara mengembangkan sistem pengelolaan hutan menjadi sistem sertifikasi hutan.
Untuk pembelian pulp dari pihak luar, Perseroan hanya membeli produk pulp yang telah mendapat sertifikasi lingkungan yang memenuhi standar dan kriteria CSA, FSC, PEFC, atau SFI.

The Company’s products comply with all the product safety regulations for Europe, Japan and the United States of America including regulations pertaining to use of hazardous substances or materials.
Responsible Supply Chain
All paper pulp purchased by the Company’s mills has a documented supply chain ensuring traceability back to the original sources. This well-documented Chain-of-Custody (CoC) system aims to ensure that no illegally sourced fiber enters the supply chain.
In February 2008, the Company’s mills achieved Chain-of-Custody (CoC) certification under the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). PEFC is a leading, internationally recognized forest certification endorsement program which are promoting responsibly managed forests. With about 30 endorsed national certification systems and more than 220 million hectares of certified forests, PEFC is the world’s largest forest certification system. This certification signifies that these mills can make credible claims regarding the content of PEFC certified fibers in their products coming from sustainably-managed forest.
The Company’s mills have successfully achieved the LEI Chain-of-Custody (CoC) certification in 2009. LEI or the Indonesian Ecolabelling Standard is a constituent based organization that promotes sustainable forest resource management in Indonesia through the development of forest management systems into forest certification systems.
For its outside purchases of paper pulp, the Company ensures the integrity of its fiber supply by buying only environmentally certified market pulp that meets CSA, FSC, PEFC or SFI certification standards and criteria.

Dalam merencanakan dan menerapkan komitmen terhadap aspek sosial, Perseroan mendukung pemerintah dalam upaya-upaya global untuk pencapaian Tujuan Pembangunan Milenium PBB (United Nations Millennium Development Goals/MDGs). Melalui program-program sosialnya, Perseroan menyikapi isu-isu penting yang ada di sekitar area operasinya, sejalan dengan MDGs. Isu-isu utamanya terfokus pada penurunan tingkat kemiskinan, pendidikan untuk semua, pemberdayaan wanita, kesehatan masyarakat, dan pelestarian lingkungan. Dalam memenuhi tujuan-tujuan tersebut, Perseroan berperan secara aktif untuk menghasilkan masyarakat yang mandiri secara ekonomi dan mampu mencukupi kebutuhan sendiri melalui penyediaan dan pelaksanaan berbagai program-program dan layanan masyarakat. Perseroan juga merujuk pada rekomendasi laporan Pendataan Kontribusi dan Dampak Sosial yang dilakukan terhadap Perseroan dalam penerapan aktifitas-aktifitas sosialnya. Selain itu, Perseroan juga telah mulai merujuk kepada draft standar ISO 26000 guna meningkatkan dampak positifnya terhadap kesejahteraan masyarakat sekitar.
Program Pendidikan dan Infrastruktur
Salah satu prioritas Perseroan dalam program sosialnya adalah meningkatkan tingkat pendidikan masyarakat di sekitar wilayah operasinya dengan menyediakan akses serta membuka peluang untuk mendapatkan pendidikan yang berkualitas. Pada tahun 2009, Perseroan memberi berbagai beasiswa untuk pelajar di sekitar wilayah operasinya, termasuk mengirim siswa-siswa terbaik untuk belajar selama tiga tahun di bidang Pulp and Kertas. Selain itu, Perseroan juga menyediakan dan memperbaiki sarana publik yang sudah ada termasuk merenovasi sistem saluran air untuk keperluan sanitasi.
Program Kesehatan dan Lingkungan
Melalui program kesehatan dan lingkungan, Perseroan berusaha untuk meningkatkan kesehatan masyarakat di sekitar wilayah operasinya. Selain, melakukan kampanye Bersih dan Sehat serta layanan kesehatan gratis bagi masyarakat, Perseroan juga melakukan program penanaman ratusan ribu pohon, yang berfungsi sebagai paru-paru kota industri tempat Perseroan beroperasi.
Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Empowerment
In planning and implementing the commitment to its social initiatives, the Company is supporting the government in meeting the National Goals of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Through series of its social programs, the Company in alignment with the MDGs addresses the most important issues in the area in which it operates. These issues mainly focused on poverty alleviation, education for all, women empowerment, community healthcare, and environmental sustainability. In order to reach their goals, the Company actively helps to enable communities to become self-reliant and economically independent by providing and implementing a range of outreach programs and support services. The Company also refers to the recommendations of it’s Social Footprint Assessment in implementing its social activities. In addition, the Company has also started to refer to the working draft of the ISO 26000 to further enhance its positive impact on the community.
Education Program and Infrastructure
Improving the community’s education level and providing access to quality education is one of the Company’s top priorities for its social activities. In 2009, the Company provided wide range of educational scholarships for students from the surrounding area, including sending some of the best students to Pulp and Paper Academy for a three years’ course. In addition, the Company also provided and rehabilitated existing public infrastructures for better use including rehabilitation of the public water supply for sanitation purpose.
Health Care and Environment Program
Through its health care and environment program, the Company aims to improve the health of the community surrounding its operational area. In addition, to implementing the Clean and Health campaign and providing free medical service for the community, the Company is also initiating a major afforestation program by planting hundreds of thousands of trees, which serves as the much needed city lung in the industrial area in which it operates.

Sustainability Report 2008-2009
Pada kuartal keempat 2009, Perseroan bersama APP mulai menyusun Sustainability Report–nya yang ketiga. Laporan ini akan merangkum kegiatan Perseroan dalam hal sustainabilitas sepanjang tahun 2008-2009. Sustainability Report ini akan disusun berdasarkan standar dan indikator yang terdapat di
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Isi dari laporan tersebut akan
melalui proses verifikasi dari pihak ketiga independen, yang melakukan verifikasi berdasarkan standar prinsip dari Institut Akuntabilitas Sosial dan Etika (Institute for Social and Ethical
Accountability) AA1000. Sustainability Report untuk tahun
2008-2009 akan diterbitkan antara kuartal kedua dan ketiga 2010.
Penghargaan Primaniyarta
Pada tahun 2009, Perseroan menerima Penghargaan Primaniyarta dari Menteri Perdagangan Republik Indonesia untuk kategori Global Brand Development. Penghargaan ini diberikan kepada para eksportir yang memiliki kinerja yang baik serta berkontribusi tinggi dalam meningkatkan nilai ekspor non-migas. Penghargaan ini

Other Programs
As a part of the surrounding community, Pindo Deli participate in many community programs such as religious activities including religious holidays celebration, independence day celebration, distributing the nine basic needs package (sugar, rice, cooking oil, etc) to the poorest of the poor, providing aid for natural disaster victims, and other community activities.
Sustainability Report 2008-2009
During the fourth quarter of 2009, the Company together with APP started to develop its third Sustainability Report. The report will cover activities from 2008-2009. This Sustainability Report will be developed based on the main considerations and selected performance indicators established by the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) framework. The contents of the report will be verified by the independent, international, third-party auditor, which will adhere to the principles and practices of the Institute for Social and Ethical Accountability’s AA1000 Assurance Standard. The 2008-2009 Sustainability Report will be launched between second and third quarter of 2010.
Primaniyarta Award
In 2009, the Company was awarded with the Primaniyarta Award by the Industrial and Trade Minister of Indonesia in the category of Global Brand Development. The award was given to exporters who have made outstanding achievements and contributions to increasing Indonesia’s non-oil and non-gas exports and is intended to encourage global market excellence for Indonesian companies. This is the second award that the Company received since 2008.

APP’s Carbon Footprint
Sebagai langkah awal, untuk mengurangi jumlah emisi karbon dan gas rumah kaca dalam kegiatan operasinya, APP dan Perseroan memulai penyusunan Laporan Emisi Karbon (Carbon
Footprint Assessment) untuk mengukur tingkat produksi emisi
yang dihasilkan saat ini yang akan dijadikan sebagai dasar untuk penyusunan rencana pengurangan emisi dan produksi gas rumah kaca ke depannya, untuk mewujudkan visi jangka panjang Perseroan dalam menghasilkan kertas bebas emisi karbon.
Pada bulan Agustus 2008, APP mempublikasikan hasil dari pendataan emisi karbon tersebut, di mana dijelaskan hasil dari pendataan bahwa tingkat emisi dan produksi gas rumah kaca yang dihasilkan Perseroan dalam operasinya berada di bawah batas regulasi industri. Jika penyerapan karbon hutan tanaman dimasukkan dalam perhitungan, rata-rata emisi karbon Perseroan akan menjadi lebih rendah, bahkan mendekati netral.
Sejak tahun 2009, Perseroan dan APP melakukan Pendataan Emisi Karbon Perseroan tahap kedua bekerja sama dengan
Environmental Resources Management (ERM), sebuah lembaga
independen berbasis di Inggris yang merupakan konsultan global terkemuka dalam bidang lingkungan dan sosial. Selain Laporan Emisi Karbon untuk tahun 2007-2008, kajian tahap kedua ini juga meliputi kalkulasi besaran selisih antara laporan sebelumnya dan cara untuk menutup selisih tersebut sesuai dengan Protokol Gas Rumah Kaca (GHG Protocol) dan standar ISO 14064. Dalam proyek tersebut juga akan dilakukan pendataan hasil emisi sejumlah produk dari hulu ke hilir (Life
Cycle Assesment). Pendataan emisi karbon secara lebih mendetil
ini merupakan bagian dari komitmen dan kontribusi Perseroan dalam penanggulangan dampak pemanasan global.
United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Award Recognition
In 2009, the Company submitted its application for the MDGs Award for the first time and was nominated in the Metro TV Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Award Certification of Recognition for the category of Environmental Sustainability. This achievement is a motivation for the Company to continue and further improve its environmental friendly practices.
APP’s Carbon Footprint
The Company and APP initiated a Carbon Footprint Assessment to provide a benchmark against which to measure and reduce their Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and assist the Company to reduce its carbon footprint in the future and chart its progress toward the long-term goal of producing carbon-neutral paper.
In August 2008, APP released the results of its first ever Carbon Footprint Assessment. The assessment showed that all pulp and paper mills that supply product for APP, including the Company are operating well within industry norms with regards to GHG emissions. In fact, when plantation sequestration is considered, the weighted average carbon footprint was considerably close to neutral
In 2009, the Company together with APP began the second step of its Carbon Footprint Assessment with Environmental Resources Management (ERM), a UK-based global leader in environmental and social consulting. In addition to Carbon Footprint Assessment for 2007-2008, this second stage assessment will include identifying and closing the gap between the previous report with respect to the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064. The project will also include Life Cycle Assessment, which calculates carbon emission from the gate to end use for certain products. These advance carbon footprint calculations are a part of the Company’s commitment and contribution in the fight against global warming.

Tujuan dari pendataan ini adalah untuk mengukur dampak dan kontribusi sosial Perseroan di sekitar wilayah operasinya guna digunakan sebagai dasar untuk meningkatkan kontribusi sosial dan ekonomi Perseroan di masa-masa yang akan datang. Pendataan ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode dan standar yang sesuai dengan kondisi perusahaan disamping menggunakan metode yang disusun khusus untuk keperluan ini, penilaian juga dilakukan menggunakan metode dari World Council for Sustainable
Business Development (WCSBD) dan metodologi dari Socio-Economic Assessment Toolbox (SEAT). Perseroan telah mulai
melaksanakan rekomendasi-rekomendasi yang muncul dari hasil pendataan tersebut melalui implementasi kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakatnya.
APP’s Social Footprint
In 2009, the Company and APP finalized their Social Footprint Assessment. The objective of the assessment is to serve as a benchmark against which to measure and improve the Company in increasing its social and economic contributions. The assessment organization assessed and adapted the most suitable standards and methods for APP’s SFA from standards for reporting a company’s Social Footprint developed internally as well as the World Council for Sustainable Business Development (WCSBD) and the methodology of the Socio-Economic Assessment Toolbox (SEAT). The Company had started to address the recommendations included in the report through its CSR programs.

Perseroan dan anak perusahaan, PT. Lontar Papyrus Pulp & Paper Industry (”Lontar Papyrus”) bergerak dalam bidang usaha industri bubur kertas (pulp), kertas, tissue dan kertas kemasan
(packaging). Saat ini, Perseroan memiliki fasilitas produksi di
Karawang, propinsi Jawa Barat dan di Perawang, propinsi Riau, sedangkan Lontar Papyrus memiliki fasilitas produksi di Desa Tebing Tinggi, Tungkal Ulu, propinsi Jambi. Total kapasitas produksi Perseroan dan anak perusahaan adalah pulp sebesar 1.020.800 ton per tahun, kertas 913.000 ton per tahun, tissue 372.000 ton per tahun dan kertas kemasan 96.000 ton per tahun.
Pendapatan Perseroan dan anak perusahaan terutama diperoleh dari penjualan produk pulp, kertas, tissue dan kertas kemasan baik domestik (44,0%) maupun ekspor (56,0%). Pasar ekspor Perseroan terutama ke negara-negara di Asia, Timur Tengah, Eropa, dan Afrika.
Kinerja Perseroan sensitif terhadap fluktuasi harga pulp dan kertas yang berlaku di pasaran dunia yang dipengaruhi oleh permintaan dan penawaran di tingkat regional dan internasional. Dengan pertumbuhan ekonomi kawasan Asia-Pasifik yang cukup baik, Perseroan berharap permintaan atas produk Perseroan dan harga produk Perseroan dapat meningkat.
Berikut adalah tinjauan kinerja operasional konsolidasi dan kondisi keuangan Perseroan pada tahun 2009 dibandingkan dengan tahun 2008:
Penjualan Bersih Konsolidasi
Penjualan terdiri dari penjualan pulp, kertas, tissue, kertas kemasan dan produk lainnya. Penjualan bersih konsolidasi Perseroan untuk tahun buku yang berakhir pada tanggal 31 Desember 2009 adalah sebesar US$1.269,7 juta, turun sebesar 3,5% dibandingkan dengan tahun 2008 sebesar US$1.316,0 juta. Penurunan ini terutama disebabkan oleh penurunan harga jual produk Perseroan.
Beban Pokok Penjualan

The core business of the Company and its subsidiary, PT. Lontar Papyrus Pulp & Paper Industry (“Lontar Papyrus”) is pulp, paper, tissue and packaging manufacturing. Currently, the Company has production facilities in Karawang – West Java province and in Perawang – Riau province while Lontar Papyrus has production facilities in Desa Tebing Tinggi, Tungkul Ulu, Jambi province. The total annual production capacity of the Company and subsidiary in 2009 was 1,020,800 tons for pulp, 913,000 tons for paper, 372,000 tons for tissue and 96,000 tons for packaging.
The Revenue of the Company and subsidiary are mainly generated from the local (44.0%) and export (56.0%) sales of pulp, paper, tissue and packaging. The Company exports its products to countries such as the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and other countries in Asia.
The Company’s performance is highly affected by the fluctuations in world prices of pulp and paper which are affected by the regional and international demand and supply. With a better economic growth in Asia Pacific region, the Company expects the demand and price of the Company’s products will also increase.

Consolidated Net Sales
Company’s sales are derived from sales of pulp, paper, tissue, packaging and other products. The consolidated net sales of the Company for the year ended December 31, 2009, were US$1,269.7 million, a decrease of 3.5% compared to the consolidated net sales of US$1,316.0 million in 2008. This was mainly due to a decrease in selling price of the Company’s products.
Cost of Goods Sold
