English is international language used as a communication among nations in the world. In Indonesia, as the first foreign language, English is taught from elementary school up to University or even starts from kindergarten. English has important role in information progress in many areas; it is used for international trade, education, tourism, and other important international affairs. Because those reasons English becomes one of the materials in teaching and learning in Indonesia. One of the important components of language is called vocabulary, because without vocabulary people can not apply language well. According to the English teacher of SDN Sambung Demak the vocabulary mastery of the students is still unsatisfying because it is too difficult for the students to memorize the word in English and its meaning. When the teacher teaches vocabulary, the teacher gives a sentence and asks the students to find the meaning of each word by using dictionary and then memorize the whole words. In this study, skill circuits is chosen as a technique for teaching vocabulary. Skill circuits is a competitive group activity in which learners work in groups of 3 or 4 and move around the classroom so that it will be easier for the students to understand the material that given by the teacher. The limitation of the material that use in this research is professions and transportations that based on the syllabus.

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not there is a significant difference between the Vocabulary Mastery of the Fifth Grade Students of SDN Sambung Demak in Academic Year 2013/2014 before and after being taught by Using Skill Circuit.

From the result of calculating of the pre test data, it can be known that the result of the mean score of pre test is 67,06 and standard deviation is 13,7. The writer also found the highest score is 85 and the lowest score is 30. It can be said that the vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SDN Sambung Demak before being taught by using Skill Circuits is categorized fair. Meanwhile the result of the mean score of post test is 80,83 and standard deviation is 13,1. The writer also found the highest score of post test data is 100 and the lowest score is 55. Based on the result of mean score of post-test, it can be said that the vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SDN Sambung Demak after being taught by using Skill Circuits is categorized good. Based on the result of calculating data of t-test, the writer found t-observation 11.55 while t-table 2.042 with level of significant 0.05 and degree of freedom (df) 42. Moreover the calculation of t-observation was higher than t-table in level of significance 5%. It means there is a significance difference between the vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SDN Sambung Demak in academic year 2013/2014 before and after being taught by using Skill Circuits.

Bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa internasional yang digunakan sebagai komunikasi anatar negara-negara di dunia. Di Indonesia, sebagai bahasa asing pertama, Bahasa Inggris diajarkan dari sekolah dasar sampai perguruan tinggi atau bahkan dimulai dari taman kanak-kanak. Bahasa Inggris mempunyai pengaruh penting di kemajuan informasi diberbagai hal; Bahasa Inggris digunakan untuk perdagangan internasional, pendidikan, pariwisata, dan hubungan internasional yang penting lainnya. Karena alas an alas an tersebut Bahasa Inggris menjadi salah satu materi dalam proses belajar mengajar di Indonesia. Salah satu komponen penting dari bahasa adalah kosakata, karena tanpa kosakata orang idak bisa menggunakan bahasa dengan baik. Menurut guru bahasa Inggris di SDN Sambung Demak penguasaan kosakata siswa masih belum memuaskan karena bahasa Inggris terlalu sulit bagi siswa untuk mengingat kata dalam bahasa Inggris dan artinya. Ketika guru mengajarkan kosakata, guru memberikan kalimat dan meminta siswa untuk mencari arti setiap kata menggunakan kamus kemudian menghafal seluruh kata. Dalam pembahasan ini, skill circuits dipilih sebagai teknik pembelajaran kosakata. Skill circuits adalah aktifitas kelompok yang berkompetesi dimana siswa bekerja berkelompok terdiri dari 3 atau 4 siswa dan bergerak di ruangan kelas sehingga itu akan memudahkan siswa untuk memahami materi yang diberikan oleh guru. Batasan materi yang di gunakan dalam pembahasan ini adalah profesi dan transportasi yang berdasarkan silabus.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada atau tidak perbedaan yang signifikan anatara pengetahuan kosakata para siswa kelas lima SDN Sambung Demak tahun ajaran 2013/2014 sebelum dan sesudah diajar menggunakan Skill Circuits.

xii Dapat dikatakan bahwa penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas lima SDN Sambung Demak sebelum diajar menggunakan Skill Circuits dikategorikan cukup. Sedangkan hasil dari nilai rata-rata setelah tes adalah 80,83 dan deviasi standar adalah 13,1. penulis juga menemukan nilai tertinggi yaitu 100 dan nilai terendah 55. Berdasarkan hasil nilai rata-rata setelah tes, dapat dikatakan bahwa penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas lima SDN Sambung Demak setelah diajar menggunakan Skill Circuits dikategorikan baik. Berdasarkan penghitungan data t-tes, penulis menemukan t-observasi 11.55 sedangkan t-table 2.042 dengan tingkat signifikan 0.05. lebih dari itu penghitungan dari t-observasi lebih tinggi daripada t-table dalam tingkat signifikan 5%. Ini bermakna bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pengetahuan kosakata siswa kelas lima SDN Sambung Demak tahun ajaran 2013/2014 sebelum dan sesudah diajar menggunakan Skill Circuits.
