Galasin

Galasin is an Indonesian traditional game. In other parts of Indonesia. this game is called Gobak Sodor. Galasin can be played indoors or outdoors. Nowadays, many children are not familiar with this game.

They are more familiar with video games or online games.

Galasin is a group game. There are two teams in the game. One team consists of three or four persons.

One team guards the lines. The other team has to run through the lines without being touched by the guards.

Batik

Batik is both an art and a craft. Batik is very popular and well known around the world. The word batik is from Java and it means "titik" or dot. It refers to the wax dots. The wax dots make up the pattern. To make batik, we should apply hot wax, a sticky yellow substance, over the fabric. Each culture has different traditional styles of batik. Betawi batik has many patterns, such as ondel-ondel, nusa kalapa, sulur jawara, rasamala, salakanegara, and many more. Many Indonesians wear batik for formal and casual occasions.

Students also wear batik at school as their uniform 'once a week. They are very proud to wear it.

Materials: 1. White fabric, 2. Paint (napthol or indigosol), 3. Design / pattern, 4. Pencil 5. Wax, 6.

Wooden Frame, 7. Sodium carbonate 8. Caustic soda, 9. Pan and stove (to heat the wax). Steps: 1. First, prepare the main materials (the design/pattern and the fabric), 2. Wash the fabric to remove any dirt, 3. Draw the pattern. You can draw it with a pencil directly on the or copy it from a paper pattern, 4. Then apply the hot wax along the pattern outline with a canting. Apply the wax to the line or ornaments that you don't want to colour. This step takes time, so you should be patient, 5. When the wax is fully applied, the fabric can be dyed. Immerse fabric in sodium carbonate in order to enhance absorption of colour, 6. After that, the fabric is immersed in the actual paint (napthol or indigosol) and then rinsed in cold water, 7. The next step is to remove the wax. To do this, we immerse the batik for a few moments in boiling water. Mix caustic soda with the water to help remove the wax. 8. The last step is to dry the batik fabric and the process of making batik is complete.
