Listening skills (Pre-experimental research on eleventh grade students of UPT SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep). Using English podcast application to improve students' listening skills (Pre-experimental research on eleventh grade students of UPT SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep). This research aimed to improve students' listening comprehension through the Application of English Podcast from the British English Council to eleventh grade students of UPT SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep.

Besarnya signifikansi sebesar 4,72 berarti terdapat peningkatan antara hasil skor pemahaman menyimak siswa sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan aplikasi English British Council English Podcast. Penggunaan Aplikasi Podcast Bahasa Inggris untuk Meningkatkan Keterampilan Mendengarkan Siswa (Studi Pra Eksperimen pada Siswa Kelas XI di UPT SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman mendengarkan siswa melalui Aplikasi English British Council English Podcast untuk siswa Kelas XI UPT SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep.

Angka signifikansinya sebesar 4,72 yang berarti terdapat peningkatan antara skor pemahaman mendengarkan siswa sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan aplikasi English British Council English Podcast. INTRODUCTION

The goal of this research for SMA/MA is to enable students to achieve a functional level of oral and written communication. On the other hand, students can practice their listening using the English Podcast app. Based on the background, the researcher formulates the following research question: Does the use of English Podcast application improve students.

The purpose of this research is to find out: the use of English podcast application improves the listening skills of eleventh grade students of UPT SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep. For other researchers, the research of this research study can be an option to be a reference for conducting other research related to this research study. For the English teacher, this research can provide additional knowledge and experience on how to improve students' listening skills.

For students, it can be a positive effort to improve their listening skills and also make students use their device to learn. The purpose of this research is limited to the teaching and learning of listening in UPT SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep.

LITERATURE REVIEW

The pre-listening activity, the first listening and the discussion based on the matching process using the resources of the podcast materials were effective and improved the students' listening skills. The researchers sought to elucidate students' effectiveness, perceptions, and learning experiences when using podcast media. The researcher included only one class that gave a pre-test and a post-test without other learning media as a comparison, and this research focused on observing students' listening comprehension.

Stanley (2006) stated that all students can be encouraged to install the podcast application from internet services to their smartphone. Especially in English Podcast Application has the description or the text of the podcast on this application, it would make it easy for the students to understand the podcast. Then the researcher instructs the students to play the podcast on their own phone to gain more understanding.

In this research, the researcher used English Podcast Application as a medium in the learning process, and the result is students. The researcher wants to know how students understand podcast and conversation using the English Podcast app. The English Podcast application plays a role in students who are interested in listening to podcast talk, with interested talk and scenario, if students need, it will be easier for students to understand the podcast.

In this research, the researcher used pre-experimental research to know the students' improvement in listening comprehension through English Podcast Application in the eleventh grade students of UPT SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep. The researcher gave the pre-test in the first meeting to know the students' prior knowledge using the English Podcast application. The researcher gave the treatment to the students after taking the pre-test to develop the knowledge of the students with the use of the English Podcast application.

The researcher administered a post-test at the last meeting, after the treatment, to find out the development or outcome of the students' knowledge. The purpose of the test as a research instrument is to collect data on the progress of the student's listening comprehension. The researcher administered a pre-test in the first meeting to find out the students' initial knowledge.

The researcher gave the treatment to the students after conducting the pretest to develop the students' performance in using Webtoon. The researcher gave the post-test at the last meeting after treatment to know the development or result of the students' knowledge.

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

The table shows the students' improvement in finding listening comprehension using the English Podcast application. The pretest obtained students' listening rate score percentage before the researcher gave the students treatment. The researcher also tells the students to listen to the podcast at least three times a week outside of the meeting class.

The researcher gave the students to listen to the podcast and then the researcher asks the students to review the podcast. The post-test obtained the percentage of students' listening scale scores after the researcher gave the students treatment. Based on the Post-Test data, as clearly presented, the mean total post-test score in the eleventh grade of UPT SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep was 81.50, the mean of the post-test score was 90.00, the standard deviation 13.48488, the minimum score in the post- test was 50.00, the maximum or highest score by students was 100.00, and the total aggregate score was 1630.00.

Regarding the above students' listening score, it can be seen that the post-test result was slightly improved. The table showing the average score of the students' listening score shows that the students achieved a score of 58.00 (low) in the pre-test, and an improvement of 81.50 (very good) in the post-test. The hypothesis proposed in this study is: “The use of English podcast applications to improve students' listening comprehension”.

The number of significant is 4.72 and it means that there is an improvement between the result of students' listening comprehension score before and after using English podcast application. Using podcast as a learning medium can be alternative and innovative tools that improve students' understanding and performance in listening comprehension. The result of the interview showed that most of the students are interested in audio podcast media (Alfian & Lio: 2019).

The pre-test was conducted to detect students' listening comprehension ability using True False test based on the application's test through google forms. In relation to the above data, it can be said that the students' listening comprehension is still low. Based on the data the researcher has found, the students' listening comprehension improves.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Access to the Internet is also becoming easier and cheaper, making audio podcast application on the Internet more affordable. For English lecturer or teachers, this learning media helps students to learn from home or anywhere outside the classroom because they can access the website or install the English Podcast app. This media can help the lecture or teacher formulated to help students from anywhere to improve their English performance.

In short, this suggestion is not only directly for English teachers of SMA Negeri 11 Pangkep, but also fits with other English teachers or lecturers. To improve their English skills, writing, speaking, reading and listening, they need to boost time and energy. One of the best ways is to listen to the podcast every day during this learning from home situation.
