SUBJECT: MINUTES OF THE MEETING OFTHE CROP WEATHER WATCH GROUP HELD 11.02.2022.

Week Summary

During the week higher winter rainfall was observed. The total live

storage in 140 reservoirs in different parts of the country on the week ending

10.02.2022 was 109.77 Billion Cubic Meter, which is 62% of the storage capacity

at full reservoirs level. Overall prices remained stable during the week except

for potato, which has shown marginal decline. Summer crops sowing are

expected to pick up from end of February. Details of each sector are given here

under:

Winter Rainfall Status (January – February) during the week ending 09 February, 2022

1.1 Rainfall

Rainfall during the week (03 February to 09 February 2022): Rainfall was large excess/excess in 18 sub-divisions, deficient/large deficient in 06 sub-divisions and 12 met sub-divisions received no rainfall. (Sub-Division wise weekly rainfall distribution is in Annex-I).

Cumulative rainfall (01 January to 09 February 2022): Rainfall was large excess/excess in 27 met sub-divisions, normal in 02 sub-divisions and deficient/large deficient in 07 met sub-divisions.

1.2 Weather Forecast

Week 1(10 – 16 February, 2022)

 Isolated to scattered light rainfall/snowfall very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit- Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on 13th & 14th February, 2022.

 Isolated to scattered rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala &

Mahe, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands during most days of the week. Isolated thunderstorm accompanied with lightning also likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe during 1st half of the week.

 Dry weather very likely over remaining parts of the country during most days of the week.

Overall rainfall activity is very likely to be below normal over Western Himalayan Region

& adjoining plains and above normal over extreme south Peninsular India.

Week 2 (17 – 23 February, 2022)

 Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall very likely over Western Himalayan Region and light isolated to scattered over plains of northwest India during 1st half of the week.

 Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall/thundershower is likely over east & northeast India during 2nd half of the week and over extreme south Peninsular India during most days of the week.

Overall precipitation activity is likely to be below normal over most parts of Western Himalayan Region; normal to above normal over east & northeast India and extreme south Peninsular India.

Minimum Temperature for week 1 & 2: (10-23 February, 2022)

Cold Day to Severe Cold Day conditions very likely in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh during next 2 days and Cold Day conditions very likely in isolated pockets over Uttarakhand during next 2 days.

Dense to Very Dense Fog Conditions very likely in isolated pockets during night/morning hours:

o over Uttar Pradesh during most days of the week;

o over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand & northeast Rajasthan during next 24 hours; and o over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi during night/morning hours of 13th -15th

February,2022.

No significant cold wave is likely over any parts of the country during week 1.

 There is likely gradual rise in minimum temperatures over most parts of the country as compare to week 1.

 These are likely to be below normal by 1-3°C over most parts of the country except south Peninsular India, where these are likely to be above normal by 1-3°C.

No significant cold wave is likely over any parts of the country.

II. Reservoir Status (For the week ending on 10 February, 2022)

Central Water Commission monitors the live storage capacity of 140 important/major reservoirs, having capacity at Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 175.96 BCM, which is about 68.25% of total reservoir capacity of 257.81 BCM in the country.

Live Storage in 140 major reservoirs decreased to 109.77 BCM from the previous week’s level of 113.06 BCM. Current year’s storage position is higher than last year’s storage position of 105.14 BCM and higher than the average of last 10 year’s storage position of 85.93 BCM.

 There were 121 reservoirs with more than 80% of normal storage, 12 reservoirs with storage between 51% to 80%, 06 reservoirs with storage between 31% to 50% and 01 reservoir with storage upto 30%.

The percentage to live capacity at FRL was 60% on 10.02.2021, 66% on 10.02.2020, 42% on 10.02.2019 and 42% on 10.02.2018.

IV. Pest & Diseases:

 An incidence of invasive thrip( Thrips Parvispinus) from Telangana.

o Chilli Flower thrips were reported at Moderate to Severe intensity (Above ETL) from Yadadri- Buhvangiri and Jangaon districts of Telangana.

 Overall intensity of pests and diseases remained below Economic Threshold Level.

V. Seeds:

 A requirement of 310.86 lakh quintals of certified/quality seed indicated by the State for Rabi 2021-22 in September, 2021. Against this, an all India availability of 333.75 lakh quintals certified/quality seed was reported. An overall surplus of 22.89 lakh quintals of seed is available for Rabi 2021-22.

 There is sufficient availability of certified/quality seeds of all major Rabi crops for Rabi 2021- 22 except maize, buck wheat, peas, rajmash and lethyrus which will meet from National Seed Corporation Ltd., Farm Saved Seed and Private Seed Companies.

VI. Mandi Functioning

PRICE COMPARISON WITH MSP (on 09 February, 2021)

Agri produce sold below MSP: Bajra, Maize, Jowar, Ragi, Arhar, Gram, Urad, Moong and Safflower.

Agri produce sold above MSP: Wheat, Paddy, Barley, Masur, Copra, Groundnut, Mustard, Sesamum, Soyabean, Sunflower, Toria, Cotton and Jute.
