Maccabean Guild Mock Trial.

1 he lock Trial held in the Zionist Hall last fhursday night under the auspices of the ~Iaccahean Guild was on the whole f'ntertaining. The text contained ~tome wilty

;rnd amusing pa sages, and even though it did not display very great originality, it certainly showed a keen sense of humour

011 the part of the author.

The participanls, whosf' nanH'S the aucli- Pnce was evidently not meant to know hut who in the majority of cases were well known in Maccabean Guild circles. took Lheir parh very cn·diLahly an<l brought out the humour well-in somt> ('ases o well that

there was a suggestion of O\er-acling. Par- ticularly outstanding both in get-up and in the gennal representation of their parts were Barnacle Bill, '' a son of the sea and a son of a gun,"' and Abdol Ghottaller, ':Captain of the l\Iilktin Drihhler", but otherwise per- fecily hannles:-:· 1 heir contribution to the programme was responsible for a great deal of laughter. 1

Hebrew Kindergarten Celebration.

The Succoth-Simchas Torah Celebration by the children of the Bnoth Zion Hebrew Kindergartens on Monday morning last was a very bright and happy affair. Much care

THE S.A. JEWISH CHRONICLE.

had obviously been taken with the arrange- ments, and the children were at their best.

The significance of the Festivals were brought home very vividly to those who attended. In the first scene a miniature Succah was much in evidence, whilst the Lulav and the Esrog were far from for- gotten. The Torah, too, occupied a position of prominence.

The little Hebrew songs, generally accom- panied 1by action, were on the whole very charming and the singing of them won nothing but admiration from the large gathering present. Particularly outstand- ing was the last item, lthe depiction of a poultry and cattle farm lin Kfar Yeladim, and in this connection one must mention the excellence o( the costumes.

As a conclusion to a very happy morning the children were, as usual at these Fe tivals, ach presented with a packet of sweets-a reward which there can be no doubt they all deserved.

During\ the course of the morning a short speech wa delivered by Mrs. S. Gordon, who made an appeal to the public on behalf of the Kindergartens.
