A. TUJUAN PEMBELAJARAN

Melalui kegiatan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan saintifik menggunakan model Discovery Learning, peserta didik dapat mengidentifikasi fungsi sosial, tujuan dan struktur teks lisan dan tulis dengan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait cerita legenda rakyat dan terampil menyusun teks Narrative sesuai konteks dengan rasa ingin tahu, tanggung jawab, disiplin, kreatif, mandiri, serta dapat bekerjasama selama proses pembelajaran dan bersikap jujur, percaya diri serta pantang menyerah.

Read the following text and answer the comprehension questions ! Tangkuban Perahu

Dayang Sumbi was exiled in the jungle, because she was unmarried but pregnant. She gave a birth to a baby boy and named him Sangkuriang .

One day he went hunting with his dog, si Tumang. In the bush he saw a pig, Wayungyang. He wanted to shoot Wayungyang but si Tumang hindered him. He was angry at it and killed it, and then took its heart home. When he told that it was si Tumang’s heart, she was very angry and hit Sang Kuriang’s head with a spoon. And he ran away and left his mother to the east. He did not know himself and forgot his name. He was about 16 years of age.

After along time Sang Kuriang came back to the jungle where his mother lived. She looked younger than her age, so Sang Kuriang fell in love with her. “Will you marry me?’’ one day he asked her. But Dayang Sumbi refused because she recognized that he was her son. He insisted to marry her and Dayang Sumbi asked two marriage settlements. One, he had to dammed Citarum river, and two, had to make a boat in one night

Sang Kuriang almost finished his work but Dayang Sumbi cheated him. He was angry and kicked the boat. The boat fell upside down on the peak of mountain. It was known Tangkuban Perahu, at the northern of Bandung, West Java.

KEONG EMAS

Once upon a time, there was a King of Antah berantah Kingdom wished Dewi Sekartaji by changing her into a golden snail: Keong Emas. The God told keong Emas to drift along the river in order to find her husband, Panji Asmoro Bangun.

One day poor widow, Mbok Rondho Dadapan, who always fished along the river, found the golden snail and took it home. There, she put the snail in a jar and took care of it. All of a sudden.

Unexpected good things took place in Mbok Rondho’s life.

Coming back from her daily fishing, she would find delicious dishes on the table and the house cleaned. She wondered who had been so nice to take care of her house and to do cooking. When this went on several days. She could not resist the temptation to find out who the mysterious kind person was. So, one day, instead of fishing, she peeped through a hole in the wall of her house.

Narrative Text is a story with Complication or Problematic Events and It tries to find the resolution to solve the problems .

A narrative tells a story or an event or experience, usually in chronological order.

The narrative can be funny, sad, frightening, or ordinary, but its main purpose is to hold the reader’s interest and to entertain them.

Purpose:

 To entertain the readers with actual or imaginary experience in difference ways

 To entertain the readers with a story that deals with complications or problematic events which lead to a crisis an in turn finds a resolution

TEXT ORGANISATION 1. Orientation.

Sets the scene: where and when the story happened, introduces the participants of the story; who and what is involved in the story.

2. Complication.

Tells the beginning of the problem which leads to the crisis (climax) of the main participants.

3. Resolution.

The problem (the crisis) is resolved, either in a happy ending or in a sad (tragic) ending.

4. Reorientation.

This is a closing remark to the story and it is optional. It consists of a moral lesson, advice or teaching from the writer.

Jika ada siswa yang belum tuntas dalam memahami materi guru memberikan materi ulang tentang materi yang sejenisnya. Guru memberikan remedial untuk siswa yang belum tuntas, ada soal evaluasi.

Timun Mas

Once upon a time, an old widow wanted a daughter to live with her in the village. Knowing her wish, a huge giant visited her house. He gave her a cucumber seed. He told the old widow that there will be a a baby inside the cucumber. The giant promised to come back for the baby once she turned sixteen.

The old widow planted the seed in her yard. By the next morning, a cucumber grew. She cut it open and found a baby girl inside. The old widow was so happy and named the baby Timun Mas. Day by day, Timun Mas grew into a beautiful lady. The widow remembered what the giant had warned her.

So when Timun Mas turned sixteen, the widow told her to run into the jungle with a bag of salt. “You must not let the giant catch you,” the widow cried out as Timun Mas ran into the jungle.

The giant came and asked the widow for Timun Mas. The widow refused to tell him and so he went into the jungle. He angrily called out for Timun Mas. Timun Mas heard his voice and ran away from him. The giant chased her. Timun Mas threw the salt that the widow had given her. It turned the jungle into a muddy field. The muddy field swallowed the giant and he was never seen again. Finally, Timun Mas returned home and lived happily ever after with the old widow.

(The legend of Prambanan Temple )

Once , there was a beautiful Javanese princess whose name Roro Jonggrang . Roro Jonggrang whose beauty was very famous in the land was the daughter of Prabu Baka, an evil king.

One day, a handsome young man with super natural power, named Bandung Bondowoso , defeated and killed Prabu Baka. On seeing Princess Roro Jonggrang’s beauty , Bandung Bondowoso fell in love and wanted to marry her

Meanwhile, Princess Roro Jonggrang felt sad due to death of her father. She did not want to marry Bandung because he killed her father. But she was also afraid of Bandung. So, to refuse politely, she made a condition. “I will marry you but you have to build one thousand temples in one night as a wedding gift.” Requested Roro Jonggrang . Bandung agreed with this condition

Helped by the spirits of demons, Bandung Bondowoso started building the temples.

Approaching midnight, the work was nearly done. Roro Jonggrang knew and thought, “What shall I do

? Bandung is smarter than me. I will lose against Bandung.”

Suddenly she got an idea . She woke up all the women in the palace and ordered them to make the noisy sounds of grinding rice so that the roosters would think it had already dawn

Bandung Bondowoso got frustated because he failed to complete the thousandth temple. “ The princess has deceived me !” Following his anger , he cursed Roro Jonggrang , “ You have cheated me.

Now, the thousandth temple is you !”

At once, the princess turned into a statue.

Knowing this, Bandung Bondowoso regretted this and he went away into a far land . From then, people called the temple Prambanan Temple and the princess statue , Roro Jonggrang statue.

Title BATU BADAUN

Orientation A long time ago, on Tanimbar Island, Maluku, there lived a widow and her two children, a boy and a girl. The children were mean spoiled. They never knew hard work and neither did they help their mother with the household chores.

Complication One day, they woke up when he sun was already high. They went to the kitchen to look for food, but nothing was served. The food was still being cooked but their mother was not around. They smashed the cooking pots in rage.

They went to look for their mother and found her washing their clothes at the river. They complained to and shouted at her. It made the widow cry.

Suddently, she stopped crying. She said to her children, “From now on you are no longer my children. Do whatever you want. I’m not coming back home.”

Resolution Then the widow went to a big rock by the river and said, “Please open up, big rock. Let me come inside you and become a white, sweet-smelling flower.”

The big rock opened up. She went inside and the rock closed over her.

After a few days, a small plant started growing under the big rock. White, sweet-smelling flowers blooed from it. It had alot of leaves as well. The villagers called the big rock Batu Badaun

Re Orientation What happened to the widow’s children? The cruelchildren were forced to leave by the angry villagers. They were never heard of again.

The Legend of Batu Menangis

Although they were a mother and a daughter, they looked very different. As if they did not come from the same family. Even, they looked like a boss and a maid. How couldn’t be like that? Her daughter dressed up beautifully and wore a very nice gown. While her mother looked old and wore very simple dress.

On the way to the market, a man greeted them. “Hey pretty girl, is that your mother?” asked the man.

“Of course she is not. She is my servant, “said the girl. His mother was sad to hear her answer. But she was silent though her heart was crying. Along the street the beautiful girl kept being asked by people about his mother. But the girl always said that the old woman behind her was her assistant.

One day, the girl asked her mother to buy new gown for her. At first, her mother rejected her request because she did not have enough money. Nevertheless, because her mother was forced to obey her request, she fulfilled her daughter request. Then her mother asked her daughter to accompany her to the market. “All right, but I do not want to walk beside you. You should walk behind me, I’m embarrassed if others see me “she said. Although her mother was sad, she continued to obey her request. So they went to the market to buy gown for her daughter. The girl was walking in front while her mother was walking behind her and carrying a basket on their way to the market.

Finally, the mother could not bear any longer to hear the answer that comes out of her daughter mouth.

Then she prayed to god “Lord, punish this ungrateful child,” she said. Immediately the girl’s legs turned to be stone. The change came slowly from her feet up to her head. Seeing his legs turned to be a stone, the girl screamed “ohhhh no! What happened to my legs?” She shouted. Then she cried and realized that she had done something bad to her mother. “Mom,! Forgive me. Please forgive me! “She cried in panic. The girl kept crying and crying but it was too late. The whole body eventually became a stone. Her mother was sad to see what happened to her daughter but she could not do anything else.

Although she had become the rock completely, people can still see her tears. That was why the stone named Batu Menangis.

In a village, there lived a mother and her daughter. Her daughter was very beautiful, but she had very bad behavior. She was very lazy to help her mother work. Every day the girl was just spending her time by beautifying herself and admiring her beauty in the mirror, while her mother had to work hard to earn a living to support their life. Besides lazy, she was also very spoiled. She always asked to be given something and if she wasn’t, she would cry. Of course, that situation made her mother sad but somehow she still loved her daughter.
