ABSTRACT
Introduction: Bacteriuria refers to the presence of bacteria in urine. It is a condition in which urine culture reveals a significant growth of pathogens that is greater than 105 bacteria/ mL urine. Pregnant women have more tendency to enhance the progression of bacteriuria in urine compare to non pregnant women, especially in 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Refer to Food and Drug Administration, amoxicillin is an broad spectrum antibiotic with B recommendation. Therefore, we need to review the differences of bacterial count before and after amoxicillin therapy.
Methods: This is an analytical study with pre and post test design approach with 20 samples of 3rd trimester pregnant women from obstetric outpatient clinic in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. Clean catch midstream urine was collected, then examined by cultural convensional method before and 7 days after amoxicillin therapy for 5 days.
Results: The average age of samples are 31,85 years old (4,171) with predominant in 21-35 years old (16 samples). Predominant parity group is multigravida (16 samples), predominat gestational age in 31-32 weeks gestational age (11 samples) and predominant uropatogen is Klebsiella pneumoniae (12 samples). Neither of the patients sensitive to amoxycillin, but most of them sensitive to quinolone and cephalosporin.
Conclusion: There is no differences of bacterial count before and after amoxicillin therapy (p value > 0,05) in 3rd trimester of pregnant women in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan obstetric outpatient clinic.
