AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS' ERRORS IN USING GRADES OF COMPARISON IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT WRITING AMONG 8TH CLASS OF MTS RIYADLATUL ULUM BATANGHARI. How to minimize their errors in degrees of comparison in writing descriptive text among eighth grade at MTs Riyadlatul Ulum Batanghari?. To analyze the reason of students' errors in degrees of comparison on their writing descriptive text at MTs Riyadlatul Ulum Batanghari.

INTRODUCTION

Research Questions

To find out solution to minimize their errors in degrees of comparison in writing descriptive text among eighth grade at MTs Riyadlatul Ulum Batanghari. The relevant research above stimulates the researcher to conduct the research to analyze the degree of comparison by writing descriptive text. Interviews will use to determine the difficulty factors by using comparison grades to write descriptive text.

The results of this study are that the author found 90 errors in the use of degrees of comparison on students' writing descriptive text. The researcher asked the English teacher and the student five questions about the degree of comparison on descriptive text. Yes, they did. 4) Which mistakes did the students make most in degrees of comparison on descriptive text?.

Formed on the above question, all 20 respondents state that they have learned the degrees of comparison on descriptive text. The teacher immediately corrects and explains degrees of comparison errors in students' writing descriptive text. Objectives and Benefits of the Study

Prior Research

Enhancing Students' Comprehension of Adjective Degree of Comparison through Contextual Teaching and Learning (Classroom Action Research in Second Year MTs Daarul Hikmah Pamulang)”. This research was conducted to improve students' understanding of the degree of adjective comparison through contextual teaching and learning in second year MTs Daarul Hikmah Pamulang.

The Concept of Writing

Oshima and Hogue, argued that writing is usually to explain or persuade4 In other words, writing has a function to explain or persuade the reader about something the writer writes. Based on the above statement, it can be concluded that in writing a person can arrange letters, words, sentences and paragraphs using the knowledge of structure systematically in written forms and hope that the reader will understand what he means.

Types of Writing

In other words, exposition is the text whose content is based on the fact or opinion. The argumentative gives the information about conflicts, and the people or the reader is forced to deal with the resulting inconsistencies6.

The Purpose of Writing

The purpose of persuasive writing is to persuade readers to accept ideas In this writing, the writer asks a question that must be answered. In analytical writing, the goal is to explain and evaluate the possible answer based on the writer's criteria.

The Process of Writing

Analytical writing is different, because informative writing tries to broaden the readers' perspective. Editing Proofreading mainly focuses on making one's content readable to readers while editing focuses on making one's documents conform to the conventions of written English stands, so one should check grammar, sentence structure, word choice, punctuation of punctuation, capitalization, spelling, citation and document format.

The Concept of Descriptive Text

It means that it can be concluded that descriptive text is a type of writing that consists of description, characteristic, definition of place, object or person. As we know descriptive text is a text to describe something, such as people, places or things. Smalley and Ruetten said that to make the paragraph more interesting, you can add a controlling idea that expresses an attitude or impression about the places being described, and the arrangement of details in your description depends on your topic and purpose.

For example, "the wind had carved deep holes in the sides of the rocks" is more specific than "the wind had made deep holes." The verb chiseled also gives the reader a more accurate picture of the action of the winds than did. An outline is a series of paragraphs about the topic where each paragraph usually begins with a topic sentence that foreshadows the details that will be contained in the remainder of the paragraph.

In addition to the generic structure, the genre also has linguistic characteristics that are a guide in writing the right part of the generic structure of the text. There are three windows on either side of the door and each window has a small table across the room.

The Concept of Degrees of Comparison

The purpose of this study was to evaluate and explain the interview findings and the qualitative documentation of the levels of comparison on the descriptive text. Based on the results of the analysis of the comparative error rates of students at MTs Riyadlatul Ulum Batanghari in writing descriptive text, the researcher found the results in this study. Regarding the knowledge of students' errors in all levels of comparison on the descriptive text, the researcher used the interview method as secondary data.

So, based on the findings of the above documentation and interview data study, the researcher found that students still made a mistake in changing comparative word of degrees of comparison on descriptive text. Students should pay special attention to the interpretation of the teacher and learn more about the degrees of comparison.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Data Resources

Secondary source is data collected from everything related to this study that can support the research such as: books, articles, journals and some relevant documents. One example of a book title related to this research is The Grammar Book An ESL / EFL Teacher's Course by Marianne Celce-Murcia and Dianne Larsen-Freeman.

Data Collecting Technique

The observation focuses on the application of degrees of comparison in the writing classroom for their writing task. During the observation, the researcher took field notes, video, and photographs that could be used in analyzing the data phase. Interview is the meeting of two people to exchange information and ideas through questions and answers, resulting in communication and joint construction of meaning on a given topic.

It can be concluded that an interview is a process of obtaining information and ideas from the questions and answers of two people. In this study, interview will be used to obtain information about the students' errors in the degree of comparison, and it will also serve as a secondary source. In conducting the interview process, researchers needed the English teacher and some students' data generated from interviews are for rechecking or proving information and information from previously obtained results.

A researcher may use written documents or other objects to understand the phenomenon to be studied. Documentation that the researcher obtains from the process of observation, interviews, field notes and files from the institution.

Data Analysis Technique

In this step, the researcher reads all the necessary data, gets the general meaning of the information and writes the general meaning. The researcher in this step begins to process the data by providing the code that represents the data. It presents a process model, advances a specific research drawing, or conveys descriptive information in a table.

Approach

Ya”, dan dua siswa menjawab “Tidak”. Keduanya tidak melakukan kesalahan dengan derajat perbandingan pada teks deskriptif. Bagaimana Anda dapat membantu siswa lebih memahami dan meminimalkan kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa dalam derajat perbandingan. Bagaimana cara membantu siswa lebih memahami dan mengurangi kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa saat membuat nilai perbandingan pada teks deskriptif.

Permasalahan berikutnya adalah siswa lambat memahami pelajaran bahasa Inggris, kosakatanya terbatas, sehingga sulit memahami derajat perbandingan pada teks deskriptif.

RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIONS

Discussion

Error Analysis Chart Levels of Comparison Result In addition, as a result of the interview with English teachers and students, the researcher often observed that the 8th grade students also made mistakes in levels of comparison. Further, if we look at the students' answers, the errors in degrees of comparison were made by students in converting the verb, changing the comparative word of the form of comparison of degrees and writing vocabulary. After analyzing the data on students' errors in using degrees of comparison in writing descriptive text, the researcher came to the conclusion that the eighth grade student at MTs Riyadlatul Ulum Batanghari still makes an error in degrees of comparison in descriptive text and needs to improve.

The types of errors made by the 8th grade student in comparison grades on descriptive text from the largest percentage to the smallest are errors of malformation, errors of omission, errors of ordering, and errors of addition. The teaching method was essentially good, but it needs to be introduced with a more innovative method so that students don't get bored and still feel involved in teaching comparative grades. The teacher should teach the form of degrees of comparison more deeply and clearly, especially in changing the form of comparative words by using degrees of comparison descriptive text.

Untuk soal buku, saya meminta siswa berpasangan untuk menggunakan buku, namun saya juga meminta siswa untuk merangkum derajat perbandingannya sehingga mereka dapat belajar kembali di asrama. Saya menjelaskan kembali derajat perbandingan pada teks deskriptif, membimbing siswa yang belum memahaminya satu per satu dengan meminta bantuan siswa yang sudah memahaminya untuk menjelaskannya kepada teman yang belum memahaminya.

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTION

Suggestion

Siswa kelas VIII hendaknya membaca berbagai jenis buku yang mendalami tata bahasa untuk memperkaya keterampilannya dalam derajat perbandingan, terutama untuk meningkatkan hafalan bentuk kata perbandingan. Siswa 4: Bertanya kepada guru dan menghafalkan banyak tenses komparatif dan kata-kata bahasa Inggris lainnya.
