Summary of Assessment Report of the RSPO Certification

UP Bhd's Code of Conduct and Business Ethics (same as document at UIE Mill) was available. There is evidence of compliance with defined legal requirements and implementation has been verified by conducting internal audits and/or. The mills receive letters from the head of HRSHE regarding the new regulations in force and there is evidence of measures being taken to ensure compliance.

There was good compliance with POME final discharge and air emissions from the boiler stacks with legal limits set by DOE in the mill license. United Plantation Berhad (UPB) has established documented Standard Operating Procedures for the Mill Engineering Department. There was visible document of EFB and POME application MAP for 2015, and EFB in rows, POME in irrigation channel.

Water quality monitoring was performed by United Plantations Research & Development (UPRD) upstream and downstream of the mill. All treated wastewater was applied to fields near the mill using a furrow system. Water consumption per ton of FFB was monitored and trended by the mill on a monthly basis.

An occupational health and safety plan is documented, effectively communicated and implemented

To ensure effectiveness in pesticides used, appropriate training was given to management, staff and workers and records were available. Good implementation of safety and health program observed which involvement of total staff in the training. Safety and health related issue discussed during the meeting and proper action plan observed for outstanding issue.

Assessed accident records for estates and investigated details found in place along with corrective action. Fire drill training at mills and estates to improve staff and worker awareness. At UIE, training records of each employee were viewed and included records for guest workers.

From the document seen at the mill, there is training record of every workers and staff which includes social, environmental and operational aspect. The record of each person is properly kept and maintained throughout the operating year, based on their name and nos. Training records for each training captured for training date, participant list, training venue and trainer.
