INTI SARI
menghasilkan efisiensi masnknya resin
alifatis (vaselin
dan
IiIin parafin), hidrokarbon aromatis (xilena
dan
toluena)
dan
asam oleat telah digunakan. Proses impregnasi dilakukan dalam impregnator dengan
kondisi tekanan., suhu
dan
waktu
Mikroskopi Elektron Payaran (SEM), Analisis Termal Diferensial (DTA)
dan
Spektroskopi Infra Merah Fourier
Transform
(FTIR)
dari
spesimen KKS
terimpregnasi.
Hasil
penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan mekanis KKS terimpregnasi
resin polipropilena dengan pendispersi asam oleat
dan
vaselin meningkat jika
ABSTRACT
Impregnation of recycled polypropylene resin modified using acrylic acid in
the presence of benzoyl peroxyde as initiator, in to Oil Palm Wood (OPW) only
resulted in low efficiency of diffusion of the resin in to the OPW, which in tum
lowers mechanical properties of the wood. To improve the efficiency, the
impregnation may
be
carried out by addition of dispersing agents, which function as
plastisiser and wetting agent in increasing diffusion rate of the resin in to the OPW.
In this work various dispersing agents, such as : alifatic hydrocarbons
(vaselin and paraffin wax), aromatic hydrocarbons (xylene and toluene) and oleic
acid have been used. The impregnation processes were carried out in an impregnator
in optimised condition of pressure, temperature and time. The role of the dispersing
agents on the impregnation process of the OPW
was
measured using : Mechanical
Property Tests, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Differential Thermal Analysis
(DTA) and Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy (FTIR) of the impregnated
OPW specimens.
Results of the work showed that mechanical strenghts of
polypropylene-impregnated OPW in the presence of oleic acid and vaselin as dispersing agents were
increased when compared to that of without dispersing agent. This is due to higher
amount of the polypropylene resin diffused in to the OPW when using dispersing
agents of oleic acid (78,75%), and vaselin (52,5%), compared to that of without
dispersing agent (37,5%). The polypropylene resin in the OPW specimens is
predicted to function as filler and binder among the wood fibres.
