Abstrak
Latar Belakang :

Abstract Background:
Psoriasis is a multi-factorial skin disease with a complex pathogenesis. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) have been reported to be one of the contributory factors to the pathogenesis of psoriasis vulgaris.
Objective:
The aimed of the study is to investigate the correlation between the levels of VEGF and psoriasis severity (as expressed by psoriasis area severity index, PASI).
Methods:
Sera were collected from twenty patients with psoriasis vulgaris for ELISA analysis to evaluate levels of VEGF. The severity of psoriasis was determined by the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI)
Results:
In nine months we had twenty samples with male predominance; Median age 46 years old.; the highest frequency was in fourth to six decade of life. Median PASI 9,6 (Max-Min: 34,10 – 1,80). Serum VEGF concentration Median 537,09 pg/mL (Max-Min : 1696,67 – 30,15). In addition, serum levels of VEGF significantly correlated with PASI score (r=0.527, P<0.05).
Conclusion:
These findings suggest an association between serum levels of VEGF and psoriasis disease severity, which can be recognized as markers of the psoriasis severity. The modulation of VEGF production may represent a therapeutic potential strategy for psoriasis
