SUBJECT: MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CROP WEATHER WATCH GROUP HELD 27.05.2022.
Summary Points of the CWWG meeting:
Higher pre-monsoon rainfall was observed during the week, as compared to Long Period Average (LPA) by 65%.
Heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. Heavy rainfall in these states likely to continue during next 5 days.
Heat wave conditions over southwest Rajasthan during next 5 days.
The total live water storage in 140 reservoirs across the country is 32% of the storage capacity at full reservoirs level. The current year's storage is nearly 108 percent of the last year's storage.
Soil moisture condition was good in some parts North Eastern region and some Northern Region of the country, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Bihar, West Bengal.
Summer crops area sown is 76.41 lakh ha. which have shown increase as compared to last year, which was 72.69 lakh ha. Pulses area sown has shown significant increase and Oilseeds has shown marginally increase.
There is sufficient availability of certified/quality seeds of all major Kharif crops for Kharif-2022 except jute and common millet which will meet from National Seed Corporation Ltd, Farm Saved Seed and Private Seed Companies.
The availability of fertilizer is satisfactory.
Overall major foodgrains prices have remained stable during the last week.
Prices of tomato have shown significant increase while potato has shown marginally increase and onion has shown decrease.
Out of 15 crops, the Wholesale Average Prices of 4 crops namely, Masur, Mustard, Soyabean and Sesamum have shown more than Rs. 1000 above MSP.

Pre-Monsoon Rainfall Status (March – May) during the week ending 25 May, 2022 1.1 Rainfall
Rainfall during the week (19 May to 25 May 2022): Rainfall was large excess/excess in 25 sub- divisions, normal in 07 sub-divisions, deficient/large deficient in 03 sub-divisions and 01 met sub- division received no rainfall. (Sub-Division wise weekly rainfall distribution is in Annex-I).
Cumulative rainfall (01 March to 25 May 2022): Rainfall was large excess/excess in 11 met sub- divisions, normal in 08 sub-divisions and deficient/large deficient in 17 met sub-divisions. (Sub- division wise seasonal rainfall distribution is in Annex-II).

1.2 Weather Forecast
Week 1(26 May – 01 June, 2022)
Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall very likely over Northeast India and isolated to scattered rainfall with isolated thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal & Sikkim during the week.
Isolated heavy rainfall also likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 26th & 30th; over Assam- Meghalaya on 26th, 27th, 29th May to 01st June and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram &
Tripura on 26th, 27th & 29th May 2022.
Scattered light/moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and isolated rainfall over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan on 28th & 29th May. Isolated hailstorm likely over Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand on 27th May and over Jammu & Kashmir on 28th May.
Duststorm activity at isolated places very likely over West Rajasthan on 28th & 29th May.
No significant weather likely over remaining parts of the country during the week.
Week 2 (02 - 08 June, 2022)
Due to westerly flow from Arabian Sea over south Peninsula India, light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity likely over southwest Peninsular India and isolated to scattered rainfall over rest peninsular India.
Due to southwesterly follow from Bay of Bengal to northeastern states, light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity likely over northeast & adjoining east India during most days of the week.
Overall, rainfall activity is likely to be near normal over northeast India; below normal over rest parts of the country.
Maximum Temperature for week 1 & 2: (26 May – 08 June, 2022)
During the week 1, Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C very likely over many parts of Northwest & East India during 1st half of the week and no significant change thereafter.
No significant change in maximum temperatures very likely over rest parts of the country during the week.
Heat Wave conditions at isolated pockets very likely over southwest Rajasthan on 28th &
29th May, 2022.
During the week 2, Maximum temperatures are likely to be below to near normal over the country except east India, where these are likely to be above normal by 1-3°C.
No significant heat wave is likely over any part of the country.
II. Reservoir Status (For the week ending on 26 May, 2022)
Central Water Commission monitors the live storage capacity of 140 important/major reservoirs, having capacity at Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 175.96 BCM, which is about 68.25% of total reservoir capacity of 257.81 BCM in the country.
Live Storage in 140 major reservoirs decreased to 56.40 BCM from the previous week’s level of 56.88 BCM. Current year’s storage position is higher than last year’s storage position of 52.03 BCM and the average of last 10 year’s storage position of 41.33 BCM.

There were 114 reservoirs with more than 80% of normal storage, 12 reservoirs with storage between 51% to 80%, 05 reservoirs with storage between 31% to 50%, 09 reservoirs with storage upto 30% and 02 reservoirs having no live storage.

IV. Pest & Diseases:
Overall intensity of pests and diseases remained below Economic Threshold Level.
V. Seeds:
The states have reported tentative 177.97 lakh quintals seed availability against the requirement of 160.45 lakh quintals in the country for Kharif-2022 season. An overall surplus of 17.52 lakh quintals of seed is available for Kharif-2022.
There is sufficient availability of certified/quality seeds of all major Kharif crops for Kharif- 2022 except Jute and Common Millet.
Certified/Quality seeds shortage was in some states in some commodities.
