HELD 22.04.2022.
Summary Points of the CWWG meeting:
Southwest monsoon seasonal (June to September) rainfall over the country as a whole is most likely to be normal (96 to 104% of Long Period Average (LPA)) with a model error of ± 5%.
Higher pre-monsoon rainfall was observed during the week, as compared to Long Period Average (LPA) by 21%.
During the next week, rainfall activity is likely to be normal to above normal over extreme south Peninsular India and below normal over plains of northwest and near normal over rest parts of the country.
The total live water storage in 140 reservoirs across the country is 39% of the storage capacity at full reservoirs level.
Soil moisture condition was good in some parts of North Eastern region and some Northern Region of the country, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, A.P., Telangana, Tamil- Nadu and Kerala.
Summer crops area sown is 64.06 lakh ha. which have shown increase as compared to last year, which was 59.92 lakh ha. Pulses and Oilseeds area sown have shown significant increase.
Inflation (WPI Food Index) has increased from 8.47% in February 2022 to 8.71% in March, 2022.
Overall major foodgrains prices have remained stable during the week.
Prices of potato and tomato have shown increase and onion has shown decline.

Pre-Monsoon Rainfall Status (March – May) during the week ending 20 April, 2022
1.1 Rainfall
Rainfall during the week (14 April to 20 April 2022): Rainfall was large excess/excess in 10 sub- divisions, normal in 01 sub-division, deficient/large deficient in 17 sub-divisions and 08 met sub- divisions received no rainfall. (Sub-Division wise weekly rainfall distribution is in Annex-I).
Cumulative rainfall (01 March to 20 April 2022): Rainfall was large excess/excess in 10 met sub-divisions, normal in 02 sub-divisions, deficient/large deficient in 22 met sub-divisions and 02 met sub-divisions received no rainfall.. (Sub-division wise seasonal rainfall distribution is in Annex-II).

1.2 Weather Forecast
Week 1(21 - 27 April, 2022)
Scattered/fairly widespread rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam- Meghalaya, Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds during next 5 days.
Isolated rainfall over higher ridges of Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during 24-26 April.
Isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Kerala-Mahe, Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka
& Telangana during next 5 days
Dry weather very likely over remaining parts of the country during most days of the week.
Week 2 (28 April – 04 May, 2022)
Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activities over Western Himalayan regions and adjoining plains of India from 3 May till 5 May.
Light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm activity is very likely to continue over northeast India during most dates of the week.
Due to trough/wind discontinuity over south Peninsula India, light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall along with thunderstorm is likely over Kerala and Karnataka during most days of the week and it is likely to be isolated over rest of extreme south Peninsula India.
Overall, rainfall activity is likely to be normal to above normal over extreme south Peninsular India covering mainly over Kerala and coastal Karnataka, northeast India, Kashmir; below normal over plains of northwest, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and near normal over rest parts of the country.
Maximum Temperature for week 1 & 2: (21 April – 04 May, 2022)
During the week 1, maximum temperatures is likely to increase gradually over eastern India leading to Heat wave conditions on some places over Odisha and adjoining areas of Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and East Uttar Pradesh during 2nd half of the week.
Heat wave conditions likely to prevail in isolated pockets over west Rajasthan, south Punjab, and south Haryana and Himachal Pradesh from 25th April.
During the week 2, maximum temperatures is likely to be above normal by 2-3°C over most parts of Western Himalayan Region and adjoining Palins of northwest India and East Coast;
over many parts of Indo-Gangetic plains, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra coast. It is likely to be below normal to near normal over rest parts of India.
Heat wave conditions likely to continue over eastern India (Odisha and adjoining areas of Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand) and at isolated places over northwest India and Uttar Pradesh during week.
II. Reservoir Status (For the week ending on 21 April, 2022)
Central Water Commission monitors the live storage capacity of 140 important/major reservoirs, having capacity at Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 175.96 BCM, which is about 68.25% of total reservoir capacity of 257.81 BCM in the country.
Live Storage in 140 major reservoirs decreased to 68.74 BCM from the previous week’s level of 72.90 BCM. Current year’s storage position is higher than last year’s storage position of 63.34 BCM and the average of last 10 year’s storage position of 53.50 BCM.

There were 120 reservoirs with more than 80% of normal storage, 13 reservoirs with storage between 51% to 80%, 05 reservoirs with storage between 31% to 50% and 02 reservoirs with storage upto 30%.

The percentage to live capacity at FRL was 36% on 21.04.2021, 44% on 21.04.2020, 27% on 21.04.2019 and 25% on 21.04.2018.

IV. Pest & Diseases:
An incidence of Citrus greening disease (CandidatusLiberibacter) in Maharashtra.
o Citrus greening disease was reported at Severe intensity (Above ETL) from Nagpur district of Maharashtra.
Overall intensity of pests and diseases remained below Economic Threshold Level.
V. Seeds:
The states have reported tentative 177.97 lakh quintals seed availability against the requirement of 160.45 lakh quintals in the country for Kharif-2022 season.
VI. Mandi Functioning
PRICE COMPARISON WITH MSP (on 15 April, 2021)
Agri produce sold below MSP: Arhar, Masur, Urad, Groundnut, Mustard and Sesamum.
Agri produce sold above MSP: Wheat, Gram, Moong, Soyabean and Sunflower.
Inflation (WPI Food Index) has increased from 8.47% in February 2022 to 8.71% in March, 2022.
Status of change of WPI in February 2021 over March 2022 for some major items is as under.
- All Commodities: increase from 13.11% to 14.55%.
- Primary Articles: increase from 13.39% to 15.54%
- Food Articles: declined from 8.19% to 8.06%.
- Non-food Articles: increase from 24.23% to 25.41%.
- Pulses: declined from 2.72% to 2.22%.
- Cereals: increase from 6.07% to 8.12%.
- Wheat: increase from 11.03% to 14.04%.
- Paddy: increase from 0.00% to 1.05%.
- Fruits and Vegetables: declined from 19.69% to 15.46%.
- Milk: increase from 1.87% to 2.90%.
